Arsenal players have no respect for fans? (12/3)

Arsenal players have no respect for fans? (12/3)

Post by gooner.ed »

usual thread starter... other side of the coin today. those that did stay til the end of the psv game were largely ignored by the players. maybe the early leavers were right to go, that being the case! only joking

Although I wasn't at the game on Wednesday, from what I have seen and heard there were literally thousands of fans leaving early, and a section of those who did stay until the end resorted to booing the players off the pitch. Is that really the type of attitude that encourages the players to respond?

Yes, I know that the fans play the players' wages, and many have forked out a lot of money to watch the game, but if you want the players to acknowlege the crowd at the end of the game, how about showing a bit of support during the game?

Comparing our "fans" to those at Anfield the previous night is just a joke. We should be ashamed of our (home) support.

Highbury was known as the Library despite groups of fans being split up throughout the ground: 4000 on the clock end, another 6000 on the north bank wings , the centre section being transient people that in the main did not attend every match. There were a few thousand in the east and west stands, the noise used to roll round the ground but the accoustics were not good , the corners were not filled in and the noise escaped. Now we have nearly 50% more people in the new stadium but because of the split ( club section ) any noise generated downstairs cannot be joined by the upper group. After the PSV match I would think the Highbury 12000 were the ones that stayed to the end, I know that seats around mine ,season tickets taken by firms and used to entertain customers, emptied very quickly.Faces that I knew from the North Bank were suddenly visible. I heard no booing! If we want to make our ground more like an inferno we have to put the away support upstairs. Make the bottom bowl 100% Arsenal ,that is where the noise is going to be generated and giving 6000 seats to the enemy doesnt help. If I was a player I would have looked at all the empty seats and I would have walked off too, If you see a few people here and there you would not call that good support either.

Its a two way thing how can you expect the players to applaud the fans when 40,000 of them had already left the ground. Loyalty goes both ways.

Can't really agree with that, only the real fans stay to the end when your getting put out of a cup. Real fans deserve to be clapped by the players. (People that sing the 'not fit to wear the shirt' song are not real fans!)

We stayed through the medal presentations at Cardiff and I know the lads must have been gutted(as we were) but there was no team acknowledgement of the fans just one or two players that gave us a clap.
I think we deserved a bit more!
Still no excuse to slag them off though, EVER.

A bit harsh really. There are many others who clap off the players. Flamini, Fabregas and Toure are the usual regulars aswell as Denilson and Theo. However in the Carling Cup Final, I was one of few who stayed to see the Arsenal players get their 'Should be Winners' medals and only Denilson and Cesc came over to us and clapped. The others just stayed in the middle of the pitch...

...Denilson is giving us all a very good debut season and he looks like as he is a proper gentlemen. Well done Denny!

Good subject as is something which i'm quite annoyed about. I sit upstairs in the Orange Quad & i heard no booing of the players at the end. I noticed as mentioned the few palyers that did appluad the fans. But my gripe is away from home, 2 games which come to mind was West Ham & Sheff Utd away was a discrace at the end & the team was well supported in the games, was embarassing as the players just trooped off.
I do think at times where we lack british players does not help , it's so easy for them when we have won but it's at other times i look for. In the past Adams,Bould,Keown etc you knew what to expect. I'm sure the club does get letters of complaint about it, because every no & againg Pat Rice blocks the tunnel entrance at away games to make players take a look & wave at us fans! but does it really have to take this to make them do it.
Pamperd players i'm afraid are just not bothered.Maybe someone at the club needs to spell out a few home truths about what following the club is all about.
On the other side i wish our support could be better at home, was better earlier on in the season, PSV at home was very poor i thought. Some thing is not right we as fans are too complacent , i know we can make a difference once the sound is bellowing.

I travelled away to PSV. We gave the lads great vocal backing throughout, yes even during the dismal second half! No one left early, they couldn't as we were locked in for 15 minutes after the final whistle.

Gilberto raised his hand in our direction on his way off. Other than that Phillip Senderos was the only player who came anywhere near us and to his credit, despiet his disappointment at the result, arms raised he applauded us and thanked us for our support. But noone else did - they all trudged off without a glance over their shoulder. I'm sorry but that is disgraceful.

Fans deserve respect and acknowledgement at every game, especially away game and especially away European games. Leaving the ground I was more disappointed at the players reaction than the scoreline and it left a very bitter taste in my mouth.

All I can say is not to take it personally lol.

The players were probably a bit upset and wanted to get into the changing room quick.

Dicko, i think there's been something said as at Villa i saw the backroom team waving the players across to our end. I saw Senderos head for the tunnel and he was stopped and ushered across the pitch with the rest of them. I ALMOST got Denilsons' shirt when he threw it in to crowd, that would have capped of the night!!. Anyway, at least we won!!!.

What was with Baptista throwing his training top into the crowd before the match started? Is that usual?

Yes the team had certainly been directed to do this. I got this impression despite not seeing Senderos heading for the tunnel first. I did see him give his shirt away too. Didn't see the Baptista training shirt go even though did watch them warming up. Not sure if it has been done before.
