Back To Atmospere Again...Sorry
It occurred to me on Tuesday night why things struggle to get going inside the stadium early on in matches. At kick-off time there were still thousands of people heading for their seats (a family of four sitting next to me arrived after 11 minutes and left with 12 minutes to go!)
Back in the days of terracing we had to get to the ground early in order to secure our favourite spots from which to watch the game. This meant that most of the stadium was packed over an hour before kick-off. When the players came out to warm-up the North Bank would sing the song of each player in turn, and give serious abuse to certain opposition teams.
It has struck me that if people made an effort to get in to the ground earlier then a proper "sing-song" (for want of a better phrase) could really get the atmosphere going. I have no doubt that the craic in The Rocket before games is great, but I believe these energies would be much better used inside the stadium, making the place fervent in the 30 minutes before kick-off.
It's just an idea, but what does everyone else think?

ive been to league matches in germany and the fact that half the place are pissed helps,, guys and girls walking around selling beer all thru the game,,, ive been in spain and theres no atmosphere at all,, a terrace would help as those who want to stand together can and scream and sing as much as they like
dvbrisgooner1, valid points. But aren't the people in The Rocket, like the people who go The Pins for a game which is on SKY/ITV, enjoying recreating something which has been lost from football since terracing was abolished.
You can't expect people to come into seats and behave like they did on the terraces. The Clubs can't have it all ways. Bring back terrace in a different way and result. Put a huge big comfy seat there and they will take it easy.

That's got nothing to do with it Wayno. It's been like this for the last 13 years for as long as the grounds been all-seater. The phenomenon referred to is just relating to the all-seater era.Wayno wrote:I think the smoking ban stops a lot of fans going into the ground too early. Well if it stopped me and fellow smokers entering the ground early then it clearly does have something to do with it. No I am not suggesting that it is the sole reason, just a contributing factor. In the days of terracing it was a completely different experience to that of today but even back then, I rarely got into the ground particularly early.Galasso wrote:That's got nothing to do with it Wayno. Galasso, I do agree that the atmosphere has never been the same since all seater stadium were introduced. Unfortunately unless they bring back terreces I do not see the atmosphere ever being recreated. Even in the old days of the old North Bank, I do not recall the East and West Stands being particularly vocal, all the noise came from behind both goals, proving the point that we need to stand for atmosphere.
Quickly on the smoking thing - I knew you would say that (physic that I amWayno wrote:Galasso, I do agree that the atmosphere has never been the same since all seater stadium were introduced. But I completely agree with your statement above - the terraces provided for the rest of the ground.
IM A SMOKER AND I TRY AND LEAVE IT AS LATE AS POSSIBLE BEFORE ENTERING,, THE ONE THING IS SITTING DOWN,, IS HARD TO GET SINGING UNLESS EVERYONE AROUND YOU IS STANDING UP,, NOW I AMOLD ENOUGH TO HAV STOOD ON THE NORTHBANK AND IT WAS ELECTRIC AT TIMES,, IM BEEN TO THE GROVE WHEN THE ATMOSPHERE HAS BEEN THE SAME
I DO BELIEVE A TERRACE WOULD IMPROVE THINGS THOU

We don't have to go back to the days where 70% of the ground capacity is terracing - just an equitable solution for those people who want terracing. WE can accomodate everyone.
Arsenal go on about everyone being able to enjoy the matchday experience and on that basis - I don't. I enjoy the football but the club are not talking about that. So on the club's description, I am at a disadvantage.

No, you're confusing him with that other one, the fat one with the cat called Deinski.Galasso wrote:26may1989 wrote: I'm no longer here, I'm on www.onlineshakhtardonetsk.com. I've been replaced by Yuri.![]()
