Gooner Podcast

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Gooner Podcast

Post by bobolancs »

I really enjoy the gooner podcast, but it really bugs me that it's released so late after recording.

The most recent one for example was recorded 'early in November before the international break', and hence doesn't really address issues like Van Persie's injury, losses at home to the chavs and away to the mancs and Arshavin's subsequent performance as centre forward.

Why does it take so long to release?

there used to be a problem with the time it took to get the the thing edited, approved (for legal reasons) and then posted by our webmaster.

the recent one was delayed due to our webmaster being away for a couple of weeks.

we are optimistic that this situation is going to improve from here on as there is a new guy at the helm taking care of the editing who will probably be able to turn it around much faster.

one recorded last night should be released in 2 podcasts, hopefully first by the weekend and second by the end of next week. bottom line is that the people involved are not paid to do this, so there's only so much whipcracking that can be justified.

but we feel as bad about the delayed availability as you do. glad, at least, that you seem to enjoy them once they are available.

Why so slow?

Post by kilburngooner »

Why is it I can download a lump of music whilst consecutively streaming a dvd quality movie without a glitch but it takes at least 3 hours to download the podcast and the connection regularly times out making me miss out on half the podcast? Whats wrong with the servers at Gooner HQ

Thanks for your explanation ed! I hadn't realized that the whole thing was being done for free, that makes me appreciate it even more! Excellent work!

I personally haven't had any problems downloading the podcast.

kilburngooner: I just downloaded the latest podcast in 17 mins getting an average of around 50kb/sec. Ok that is not the fastest but it is hardly the slowest either.

Can you let me know which ISP you use as I was not aware it was possible to stream DVD quality movies AND download consecutively. you must have a T1 lines I guess?

Rob.

Sweet!

The download speeds are a bit low actually. I'm getting between 50 and 70 kB/sec, which means it takes about 12min to download the whole thing.

(by comparison, I get ~ 2MB/sec when I hoover up Football Weekly from the Guardian website, but that is a major national broadsheet, so I shouldn't really be comparing the two)
