BBC Sports personality of the year

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I could understand if he was awarded the "lifetime achievement" honour, but to suggest that he's the best at his own sport - let alone comparitively better than any other sportsman in the country - is an absolute joke.

I can think of (British) players just at Man Utd who have had a better 2009 than Giggs.

the most significant moments of his season was a goal against west ham and watching xavi and iniesta run rings around him, against 6 world champions and an ashes winning captain? what a fucking joke :banghead:

It's a ploy by the BBC to try and get back in the good books of Fergie, in the hope that he might finally start granting them interviews again.

Have always liked Giggs as a person and player but this award makes a mockery of the show.

I can't take it seriously, not since 1990 when Gazza's tears won it.

Shoot me now. I don't want to live in a world where shit like this can happen.

What next? Matt Dawson and Phil Tufnell picking up Knighthoods?

Dear Lord. :banghead:

Sports personality of the year??????

It has become a popularity contest with nothing to do with doing anything in sport. As bring back Pires said a life time achevement award would of been a good award for him because if you love him or hate him he has done very well during his time at Man U.

But what the F**K has he done this past 12 months compaired to the other 9 finalists.

It's like the X factor ! Surely no one with any grasp of reality takes it seriously.

Strauss leads England to win the Ashes, turning us from an utter shanbles into a half decent side in the process. Giggs plays a handful of games for Man Utd. Further evidence that the general public are in fact a bunch of idiots.

Giggs?? :? - ridiculous.

It's not even up for discussion, as quite clearly Giggs has NOT been the best British sportsman of 2009. Not even close.

Lifetime achievement, maybe.... sports personality of the year?? no chance. They guy hasn't even got a personality FFS!

Just like his PFA award it is for sentiment rather than his achievements in 2009.

It really devalues it as a genuine award for achievemnts in the past year. It went wrong as soon as they opened it to a public vote a few years back. You can' trust the public to vote inpartially.
