DB10GOONER wrote:Great win, poor performance in many ways. At half time I felt we might lose 2 or 3 nil and in fairness the mousers must feel a bit hard done by. But we grafted in the 2nd half and I feel we deserved the win.

Players?

Aluminium Al is fucked. What a cowardly way to concede their goal. A keeper should come out into traffic like that and plough every fucker in front of him to get the ball. Could you imagine Jennings flapping like that because he might have got hit?

Denilson is just awful. Lovely bloke, great guy etc etc etc blah blah blah... He is a very poor footballer and either needs to go out on loan or go play in the championship... at the moment (and for the last 2 or 3 years) he is not up to PL standard. Can't tackle, can't pass more than 5 yards without losing the ball, can't shoot, can't dribble, can't anything! :?

Song was a bit patchy I thought. Some great covering work to help out the very poor Denilson and the back 4 but was caught in possession too often. Needs to go back to simplifying his game.

Traore looked a bit dodgey at times and a bit good at others! Not sure about him at all. Haven't seen enough to make a real judgement. Was average yesterday though.

Sagna looked short a yard or two and seemed labouring to get up and down. Possibly in constant fear of Walcott losing the ball and getting hit on the break?

Nasri was pretty anonymous for the whole game. As was Cesc in the first half, but Cesc improved in the 2nd.

Walcott and Diaby were just awful. Brought absolutely nothing to the game. My 5 year old daughter may as well have been out there!

Tommy V was deffo MOTM and Gallas was blessed a couple times (one was deffo a penno).

AA23 was very anonymous mostly and got pulled around by their CH's rather than him pulling them around (but then he is not really in that IWWW mode). But his goal was just top top drawer. Pure raw instinctive finish. Spin the defender and bang! I still think he is slightly demotivated by having to play with the likes of Eboue and Denilson and Walcott etc. He is a confidence player and if we could stick another couple of top players around him I think he would go onto even better (and more consistant) performances.

Nice to see the gravity-challenged Gerard is still a diving cheat. How can bumping into Denilson's arse send you sprawling to the ground holding your ribs and screaming? Fucking clown...

Anybollocks, 2-1; I predicted it. Where's me prize? :-P
A pretty good summary DB10.... Your prize.... my ticket to Depeche Mode tomorrow...

Just read the games post and most of the comments are fairly the same.

With regards to Traore I thought he was okay. As a 3rd choice left back he was what I expected. Decent enough to fill in, no more!

Hats off to Tommy V! Not mentioned enough really in this thread but for me but he kept tranny Torres quiet and in his pocket!
Wife's Comment: Who's that player with the hairband? Looks like a girl!!!

And totally agree with comments about Almunia. He's gotta go but I doubt a keeper is Wengers priority! We'll end up with another Attacking Midfielder! :banghead:

Reading back yes it was a great result, who knows (maybe Arsene    ) but hopefully this could be a turning point in the season.....but!
As some of you already said at half time were also my thoughts during the 1st half. We're too light in midfield.
Some of us joked the truth saying that against Chavski it was like men against boys. I watched our midfield chasing around the first half IN GROUPS!! It really was like watching a play ground game. :banghead:
If you compare the physics of both midfields not just the height but more the build of players. (like for Like)

Gerrard Vs Cesc
Lucas Vs Dennilson
Mascherano Vs Song
Kuyt Vs Nasri
Bennayoun Vs Walcott

In a game of top trumps we'd lose! :banghead:
We got bossed about far too much and it's something that needs to be addressed!

Lets get some momentum going as the next to games we should win. Burnely (only tricky in terms of venue) and home at against the 'Orange man's' Hull.
Villa's the next target. :? 8) :barscarf:

I thought Traore was excellent, he never got caught out and seemed to understand when to stay back and when to attack.

Song has only one problem. He takes too long to do things, this can cause him to get caught in posession, apart from that he's been excellent all season.

Nasri works very hard, his tracking back is brilliant and gets overlooked because of his position.

Almunia is not a top keeper, even he seems to know it. Give Fabianski the chance now.

Walcott should have played up top, when he moved up there we got the goal (ok it was an OG but he was in a good position and did enough to put pressure on the defenfers) I really think with his pace he could frighten the life out of defenders. Fair play though, he put some good crosses in. He wasn't great, but then again nobody was.

Overall, really pleased with that result. Hopefully, 6 points from Burnley/Hull!

Almunia appears to be the main point of discussion today.he should be at his peak by now,but his whole body language is wrong.Yesterday he hoofed the ball out of play 3 times from 5 clearances. He seems totally disinterested and has been said many times before he has no real command of his area, no real communication with the defence(he speaks to them in Spanish0 and in a season which looks like panning out as AW said, many top teams will drop points and a good keeper is worth at least 10 points a season. Will fabianski be given a chance,he is by no means perfect but installs more confidence.

Walcott was appalling and should never be in our first team when Eboue / Rosicky / Diaby / Ramsey are available - the bloke just cannot play football to the required level - he cannot hold onto the ball, wastes posession and doesnt provide his teammates with any options, we were lucky Sagna had a stormer because he was effectively playing in two positions! Eboue would have at least provided us with someone who could carry the ball forward effectively.

Cesc was awful overall, Denilson and Song carried him - both the latter had very good games, particularly as it was 5 v 3 (2 when Cesc wasnt bothering) in midfield. Cesc was fine when given space, but so often his passing is erratic. Song is so consistent at the moment, you cannot play well week in week out for a team at the top of arguably the best league in football (with the spanish) without being a good player - he deserves a lot of credit that man - he was often beating two men at a time due to the Scouse Midfield 5.

Very pleased with the result, lovely when you win like that - fair play to Wenger for giving them some of what we all felt was needed. Sagna edged MOM for me, but you cant argue with Tommy V getting it. I think we are the only team in the league whose CB sprints up the pitch in the 87th minute when 2-1 away from home, i wouldnt want it any other way, its how we are and its brilliant - lets face it if we sat back we would concede eventually because we are not the best at the back! Like most, id give wookash a run in the team now.

We counted 6 dives from Gerrard yesterday - i fcking hate that idiot, one of the many reasons I want England to suffer a humilating exit at the World Cup!

I thought not even the biggest rose-tinter out there would have the audacity to defend Denilson's performance yesterday.   God how I was wrong!!  Apparently, the Brazilian Hillier had a good game!!

Liverpool will have their backs up, with a few players back, and unfortunately we have shown frailty when calm heads and character was needed.

Draw at best.

Denilson was fine, i dont understand all the negativity he is getting at all, he harried, tackled well and helped carry Fabregas. Plus, the early booking he received (unjustly) meant he had to have a composed game - which he did - dont understand why people do not accept that he is not a bad player at all, and should be given credit when its due! 8)
