Sagna
Sagna
Lets be honest here guys - what do you think of him?
Rumours Juve could be offering 20m for him in January and do you know what, I'd snap the hands off them.
Let me explain, in his first season he was great but since he has been nothing special. Forget about antics, is Eboue not better?
I remember when we signed him, some chairman of a French Club said ''well if Sagna is worth this well my player is worth that'' - I thoiught cheeky but now I'm starting to think he could be overrated. a considerable amount of the goals we conceded came down the right when he could have done better. And for one of the more senior players I expect more leadership of him
What do you guys think? Am I been too harsh?

I thought he had a good game today. Admittedly he hasn't recaptured the form of his first season - i think maybe the death of his brother had something to do with it, and the 4-3-3 leaving him more exposed - but he is a natural defender, unlike eboue, and i would pick him over eboue any day of the week. His crossing needs vast improvement but he has something like 3 assists this season i think.

Fair enough, he has been more exposed - but I just don't think it enough to have one good season. I was on about goal's conceded last season too.BT wrote:I thought he had a good game today. For me the only player in the whole squad who I'd definitely sell would be Almunia.
But i'd certainly listen to offers for Sagna and Senderos.

Yes - you are being harsh!!!!
And you actually think that Eboue is as good if not better?
Too much christmas spirit me thinks.
Sagna is miles ahead of Eboue in terms of defensive skills and in my opinion is much the better player. I don't think an annecdote from some unknown french chairman changes that at all.

But even if £20million is on the table - which i doubt - what will happen to it? We'll maybe go and find another unproven right back for £5 million and shovel the rest away for the mortgage. I agree, its not a priority to look for right back replacement at the moment and sagna hasn't been that bad.Kiki wrote:Fair enough, he has been more exposed - but I just don't think it enough to have one good season. In his first season, Sagna consistently had Rosicky and then Eboue in front of him in a 4-4-2 formation and could overlap in the knowledge they'd track back. if he did. For the last two years, he's found himself with a mixture of right-sided midfielders in front of him, the likes of Walcott etc not helping out at all defensively. With Nasri consistently in there recently, i think you'll find Sagna's been more consistent as a result.
Goals conceded? I'd look first to the goalkeeper and the amount of confidence and communication he imparts on his defenders.
it always confuses me greatly when people first of all moan about us selling our best players, but yet wish to sell them for high offers, and then moan when they are sold that their replacements are good enough. (in this case being eboue)
a team like arsenal should never ever be selling their top players if we wish to be challenging for honours. do you think there are barca fans sitting there saying if a 40m bid came in for messi we should sell him? which is exactly what some of ours on here were saying a few weeks back about cesc! truly unbelievable!

I personally think Eboue is better going forward and crossing. Defensively - I dont think there is as much in it as people would have you believe but that's just my opinion...although for what it's worth others have said they'd rather Eboue.
The point I should have made at the start is that a new RB is not our priority however if an offer like what I mentioned did come in for Sagna, I 'd certainly consider it as I think we could cope with losing him as I personally dont think we would miss him that much.MM99 wrote:it always confuses me greatly when people first of all moan about us selling our best players, but yet wish to sell them for high offers, and then moan when they are sold that their replacements are good enough. Further more the only players I ever moaned about leaving early was Pires, Lehmann, Diarra and Ashley Cole. None in recent times so I'd would hope your not referring to me in that statement.
I would say they are all fairly recent, especially Diarra and did you not start the thread?Kiki wrote:The point I should have made at the start is that a new RB is not our priority however if an offer like what I mentioned did come in for Sagna, I 'd certainly consider it as I think we could cope with losing him as I personally dont think we would miss him that much.MM99 wrote:it always confuses me greatly when people first of all moan about us selling our best players, but yet wish to sell them for high offers, and then moan when they are sold that their replacements are good enough. Who's left Chelsea or United or Liverpool in recent years? The only players being Ronaldo for £80million and Alonso for £40million. Astronomical prices for wantaway players and both teams far worse off for it....

No, no he is not.Kiki wrote: Let me explain, in his first season he was great but since he has been nothing special. Forget about antics, is Eboue not better?
Take the number of goals we may have conceeded down the right during Sagna's games and double it for Eboue as the first choice RB.
I can't see any team offering anywhere near £20m for a full back. Being generous it would only be half that and we couldn't replace with better for the same ammount so I can't see it as a viable option.
Re: Sagna
That reminds me, a friend who works for Citeh told me that Sagna is on their 'target hotlist' so you never know...Number 5 wrote:No, no he is not.Kiki wrote: Let me explain, in his first season he was great but since he has been nothing special. Forget about antics, is Eboue not better?
