‘Wonder Of You’ replacement suggestions

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Anything! I downright hate it. Even complete silence would be better

It was mentioned earlier that we have a number of musical talents in our midst. So why not a rework of the Eton Boating Song.
#There's a team called Arsenal, The greatest of them all, Continue.

Fulham can stay at the cottage, Southampton have gone from the Dell, and as for Tottenham Hotspur they can go to hell. To Hell. And we'll drink etc.

As I said a rework on the other teams maybe and lift the rhythm slightly, but it is a song that would reverberate round the ground as it did on both the Clock end and North Bank in the 60's.

Can't be arsed to read whole thread as have feeling of deja vu....but think our song should be the one used for "we love you freddy....". Slight tweaking of words required, but everyone would be right behind it from the off!

"The Wonder of You" replacement song

Post by Nos89 »

How about something from the only person who's had the stadium singing and rocking "The Boss" Bruce Springsteen. Anyone who went to his gig at the Arsenal knows it was AWESOME! although Thunder Road had the whole crowd singing which showed off the acoustics of the stadium, something the team have yet inspired us to do, it's not the right song.

I think "American Land" from his Live in Dublin cd, and a song he sung at nearly all his shows in the last four years would be be brilliant. It's a thumping take on traditional Irish song. Very upbeat and uplifting. An excerpt from the song

"There's diamonds in the sidewalk, there's gutter lined in song
dear I hear that beer flows through the faucets all night long
There's treasure for the taking, for any hard working man
Who will make his home in the American (or Arsenal) Land."

adding to that the multi cultural message of

"The McNicholas, the Poleskis, the Smiths and Zerillis too
The Blacks, the Irish, Italians, the German and the Jews
Come across the water a thousand miles from home
With nothin in their bellies but the fire down below"

To me it just about sums up what the modern Arsenal stands for. Either that or the song "Pay Me My Money Down" (which has great chanting potential in its own right) from the same cd

There are so many Excellent 'Modern' songs that are suitable

Clubfott - Kasabian
Rock N roll Train - AC/DC
Song No 2 - Blur

to name but a few, If we're going to have a Successful Anthem (by Successful I mean one that everyone can sing along to...Will sing Along to...and one that grows more popular as the years roll by)

So it HAS to have longevity and have a real touch of Class...and have Wide Popularity...and so Impossible Dream is an excellent and 'Workable' suggestion.......... thing is no matter how hard we fans (Oooops sorry customers) try, it is the club that need to get behind it, or we'll end up being stuck with TWOY..which may be an ok(ish) song, but is NO Anthem!

:barscarf: Impossible Dream :barscarf:

To dream the impossible dream
To fight the unbeatable foe
To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run where the brave dare not go
To right the unrightable wrong
To love pure and chaste from afar
To try when your arms are too weary.
To reach the unreachable star
This is my quest
To follow that star
No matter how hopeless
No matter how far
To fight for the right
Without question or pause
To be willing to march into Hell
For a heavenly cause
And I know if I'll only be true
To this glorious quest
That my heart will lie peaceful and calm
When I'm laid to my rest
And the world will be better for this
That one man, scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
To reach the unreachable star.

"The Impossible Dream"
From MAN OF LA MANCHA (1972)
Music by Mitch Leigh and Lyrics by Joe Darion

Jumping Jack Flash has blared out after a few games last season which was cool! Those lyrics can be Arsenlised quite well i reckon...

I was raised by an arsenal crazy man
I was schooled with a red and white shirt on my back
etc...

Timeless and fun

Go west

Post by loz »

A massive, epic orchestral/rock instrumental version of Go West produced by Trevor horn. The tune is identified with Arsenal as much as 'You'll never walk alone' is with Liverpool. Who's idea was 'The wonder of you', crap. I'm gonna have a go at recording this myself. :barscarf:

Hi :barscarf: 1st time poster.

Personally I would like to see the following as our pre-match tune:

Bobby McFerrin - Don't Worry Be Happy 8)
