Superstition Ain't The Way

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Superstition Ain't The Way

Post by T.S »

Great song, I know.

This thread is dedicated to all of us Gooners who have stupid superstitions. Do you lot have lucky shirts/pants/socks/etc.?

My cousin is a bit of a lucky charm. He plays semi pro football so he can't attend on Saturdays usually, but he gets down to about 6 or 7 games a season and in the whole time he's been going (about 10 years) he's never seen Arsenal lose home or away!

Now, I have a superstition going on at the moment. I don't wear any Arsenal paraphernalia when watching them on the telly or at the ground. I (honestly) started it after the West Ham game last season completely by chance. I was in a rush for the Bolton home game and for one reason or another, had no time to put my shirt on (I normally used to wear the 70s home) and we won. It's the first time I'd gone to Arsenal not in a shirt, so I, understandably assumed that I must have stumbled across the mother of all lucky charms. 22 games later, we're still unbeaten

Obviously this is all bollix, but I was wondering if any of you lot have similar, or hopefully, more ridiculous superstitions...

Edit: I've realised that this thread implies that I go to the Arsenal topless. Unfortunately for you lot, this isn't the case. You'll have to get to know me first before we go that far...

I have to pee in the same urinal before the match. I used to do it at Highbury and felt it necessary to find a suitable pisser at Ashburton. It has lead to some interesting looks when queueing for a urinal with only 2 or 3 people in the entire toilet.

TS i have a very similar superstition i never wear colours to a game if ever i do we never win. Everytime i go i get the urge to wear something red and white but try my hardest not to. Last time i wore an Arsenal shirt to a match was the 1-1 draw with Newcastle at home so it gave my superstition even more credibility

My mate wore the home shirt in the 97-98 season every game he went or watch on TV and we won every game and would never get it washed (in case the luck washed off) by the time we went to the cup final against Newcastle it stunk. After that game and us winning the double he retired it off, before it was proved the superstition was a load of rubbish

I wear one of my Cesc shirts and have a monster scarf (12 inches wide, about 6 feet long) with the old club crest I wrap myself up in.

Well, last season I used to get the tube to Highbury and Islington and walk past Highbury before crossing over the North bridge. And I always wore my 06-07 home shirt.

This year I go straight to Arsenal station, get a citrus oasis from that little shop near Drayton Park, before crossing the north bridge. I always wear my white away shirt!

I'll be sure to go and buy out all of the citrus Oasis in the Drayton Park area on Saturday morning then

My superstition is frustrating because I really want to go and get 'Flanimal 16' printed on my shirt, but seeing as I never wear it to the games, it seems pointless!

Daz - it's good to hear that there are other mentalists who go to the Arsenal!

At every Arsenal game I attend I get drunk! It is basic but it works for me!

Oh and I have never bought a home shirt since Adidas made them!

Oh and I have never seen Arsenal lose in my lucky blue Dreamcast shirt!

Oh even though I hate it I always go to Highbury before the game even though I get off at Holloway Road!

Weirdo basically!
