Glass half empty

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Glass half empty

Post by southampton gooner »

Has there ever been a better time to be a gooner, let me share a few of the highlights.

• Top of the league (this was written day B4 we pay manc’s)
• Unbeaten all season
• 22 games in all competitions unbeaten
• Spuds in bottom three and they haven’t beaten us this millennium
• Playing what is widely regarded as best football in Europe possibly the world.
• We have the best manager in world football
• We have a young team who have a great future in front of them
• We have a youth team that have beaten just about every team that has been put in front of them in league cup
• We have the best woman’s team in Europe
• Second largest turnover in world football £200m
• Top of our champions league group after record 7.0 win
• Biggest fan base in world football.
• As it stands we are not owned by a dodgy f**K who has put us in dept.
• Not to mention some of best training facilities in Europe and one of best grounds in world football.

So you can understand Gary Thwaites article in the last Gooner. What are we lacking: Ambition or money?....WHAT.
According to Mr Thwaites
• Our team is full of unproven youngsters
• We only bought Edwardo because we were short of money
• Our 3 away games have been against a mediocre Blackburn and shambolic Spuds and Hammers. That’s why we are doing well in league.
• Centre back is worrying position
• Almunia is a clown
• We are worringly short of goals
• We are to reliant on Cesc

And just to top it off he complains we have only won the league 5 times in his lifetime.
To say this guys glass is half empty is such an understatement. My wife is a super model but I get fed up cos size 0 clothes are so hard to find, I won the lottery but left my pen at the newsagents and lost it, won a car in a draw but don’t like the colour.
This guy needs to try supporting a team like Southampton where I live 1 FA cup in there history, playing a league below there bitter rivals who had a big hand in getting them relegated, no money, falling crowds and mid table.
Come on mate if there was ever a time to be happy it’s now.

Good first post, i would take issue with you on one point though, a super model wife is fine for showing off, but size 0? now i'm no chubby chaser, but i want a comfortable ride, or at least the chance to have a shag without worrying about being impaled on a stray rib.

still you are quite right about the rest, only 5 times in his lifetime? awww diddums.

Oh yeah welcome aboard, there's plenty of fine craic to be had round these parts, make yourself at home and such.

I think we're up there. Maybe someone can back me up on this one; we were second in terms of registered members, but I read somewhere on here that we're now first. We were behind Benfica for a while.

Plus, we're actually 24 games unbeaten 8)

Yes he quite correct. We are officially the largest supported football club in the world. We overtook Benfica when the new membership scheme was launched. The correct phrase I believe is 'most paid up members' of which we have over 175000 :D

yes but theres a big difference between paid up members and supporters,, man u hav far more supporters then arsenal worldwide at the moment,, only reason we have so many payed up members is that people are afraid of never getting a ticket if they have not gave the club there yearly tax

Well if they're not 'paid up', then they're not really giving much 'support' are they?

There was a statistic a few years back that an incredibly high percentage of man u fans (i think it was around 90%) had never been to old trafford. I would find it very hard to beleive that we are the biggest supported club. Still great post mate, it makes for nice readingseeing all the high points listed there. Especially considering all the "arsenal in meltdown" articles we were getting in the summer. Won't get carried away just yet, but it'snice how things have turned around.

Imight have to copy the post next time I have some spuds to wind up
