It's a shame really because I thought Traore had an excellent game against Villa... :? :?

I was almost ready to give up on his last season...he was poor, as was Toure, hardly won a header and spent a lot of time sulking and mouthing off...he is much improved this season...partly down to the quality of centre half along side him, but he is concentrating on his football and playing well.

The only thing with him that annoys me is everything that happens he has to have the physio on...and then he is fine...dont know whats up with the bloke really?

He is excellent on the floor, with the ball and without, but still lacks in the air, but Vermaelen balances that out! couple of times lately he has got high up the pitch and not been overly bothered about tracking back, but he has definitely improved!

There was 1 incident where he got completely turned upside own and where was he for the 2nd goal? This isn't a knee jerk reaction if you look at how many goals we have given away they seem to come from Gallas' errors. I first noticed it at home to everton where he slacked off to Saha's goal and it has been a continuous trend and yet everyone praises the guy.

Stay of the drugs...

Gallas has been superb this season. He carried Toure last season.Look how shit he has been at Citeh. The problem at the back for us has been a dodgy keeper and no quality left backs

Gallas was a poor choice for the captaincy.

Arsene probably gave it to him because Gallas was shouting his mouth off too much.

BUT I am amazed how the man has knuckled down to his job. He is a real pro. And has been immense this season.

Hope he stays for another season, or three.

Just to dispel the misconception that some peaple on here have that we look more solid at the back this season.
24 goals conceded in 21 games (lge) this season, compared to 23 in 21 games last season.
I agree with the title post that Gallas is pure shite, because ever since we became "dodgy" at the back there has been one constant in this poor defence, and that is Gallas. He makes those around him look bad, and I still believe he ruined Senderos' career with Arsenal.
He is the most experienced defender at the club yet he is still incapable of leading that defence.

Yes, clearly, it's a joke! Come on people, there should be place for sarcasm on this forum!!! :barscarf: :barscarf:
:bowing21: Finally some sense!! We don't half have some effing idiots follow our club!!!! He is immense and I'd love to see him stay on!! Him and Vermaellen are the best partnership since Adams & Keown! They need more help from the Midfield though! SONG COME BACK!!!! Only man for that job!

He certainly hasn't been awful but neither has he been immense, the CB pairing in general on the face of it have looked good, but the goals against tally doesn't lie, whilst it certainly isn't all down to the CB's, they are not blameless, both have made errors and are often caught out of position, so to say they are fantastic or immense is just as OTT as saying they are awful..

Gallas has been a solid player this season, and I'm pleased that he stayed instead of Toure.

What surprises me most about him is his ability to score crucial goals. Some examples:

- Last minute equaliser in 2-2 draw at home to Man Utd (November 2007)

- Winning goal in 1-0 victory at home to Chelsea (December 2007)

- Opening goal in CL qualifier against FC Twente (August 2008)

- Equaliser in the 88th minute at Dynamo Kiev (September 2008)

- Goal in the (albeit ill-fated) 4-4 North London Derby (October 2008)

- Winner in the 81st minute vs Portsmouth (December 2008)

- Winner in the 84th minute vs Hull City in the FA Cup QF (March 2009)

- Opening goal in CL qualifier at Celtic (August 2009)

And after the Henry 'handball' saga died down, it was Gallas in the record books as sending France to the World Cup. I can also remember a last minute screamer for Chelsea against Tottenham that helped guide them to the title.

He averages a goal per 7.94 games for Arsenal, which is a better record than some of our midfielders over the years (can you hear me Alex Hleb?)

Combine that with the high-quality defending we've seen this season and he's definitely the kinda guy you want around.
