negative season review

Post by highburyJD »

how2 bring every1 down - whats been bad about our season so far
easy to succumb to the hype
so pre-manure I'm putting my negative hat on

ok no1s really gonna like this
rosicky has been poor so far - a few finishes of the bench
generally invisible when he starts

diaby has basically cut inside from the left wing twice against one of the worst prem sides ever and not much else- hugely over-r8d on this seasons performances

adebayors hugely inconsistent touch may stop him ever being the right sort of striker for us

RVP has been jekyll and hyde - good or invisible
started the season well but has disappeared in several games

flamini has outsptripped every1s expectations and really pushed the tempo of games BUT can we trust him like we can gilberto in the huge games and connecting with the next point we look weak on crosses

toure and gallas are both such calm composed reactive defenders
they mark players not the ball
this means we are vulnerable to good deliveries on set pieces
gilberto is probably the most aerially dominant player we have
esp when ade doesn't play (he actuallt defends corners pretty well) we'll look very short 4corners

fabregas is virtually impossible 2criticise this season - he's a genius
although imo some of cesc's average performances have been saved by goals and over-hyped - sperz being the first one that springs 2mind (bit like gerrard and fat franky - u know the drunk hack at the sun has him down4 8 out of 10 b4 kick off)

goalies- fabianski flapped at everything v sheff u, jens is... well mad and no matter how well almunia plays - that 4-2 game v the mancs hurt me
and he was at fault for more than one of those

theo can't play on the wing - and hasn't really played as well as some quarters have made out. Good bursts but he hasn't forced his way in2 a game - dominated it.

senderos no matter how well he plays looks like he has a mistake in him

we have too many centremids and rightbacks
diarra and gilberto (two of the best imo) already expressed concern about this

gilberto - calm, influential, leader - was punished by the withdrawal of the captaincy the other night and may be on his way out

diarra (motm in both his starts 4me) is being held back and unless he plays he'll demand a move

Eboue hasn't got2 grips with being a midfielder and he still dives embarrasingly and finishes poorly

dudu's gr8 finishing has so far only manifested itself against crappy opposition (like the english NT)

when the african nations comes theoretically Song who has been excellent in defence in the leagueCup - could be called up2 cameroon

djourou and senderos are both a bit injury prone

ok sagna, clichy and hleb
er
nope I'm stumped (traore's a lot better than hoyte as a backup although Justin looked good at CB his original position)

anyway
we're gonna batter manure and I've got money on us 4the quadruple

Absolutely f**kall, we are top of the league, top of and unbeaten in our CL group and the kids are through to the quaters in the league cup. We are playing fantastically attractive football and whilst not having yet won anything, the whole of Europe are taking notice of us. Okay so it may not last but considering how the media and so called pundits wrote us off before the start of the season, I think we really can't complain. If I had to choose one bad thing it would be RVP's injury.

rosicky has been poor so far - a few finishes of the bench
generally invisible when he starts
He did alright till he got injured, he will come good
diaby has basically cut inside from the left wing twice against one of the worst prem sides ever and not much else- hugely over-r8d on this seasons performances
He isn't the best leftwinger ever but he hasn't been too shocking, looks far better when he drifts inside. Still hope we buy one in Jan as I realy don't enjoy seeing him out there
adebayors hugely inconsistent touch may stop him ever being the right sort of striker for us
The kind that links things up and causes havoc to defences? His confidence seems a bit down since RVP got injured and he was poor against Liverpool but I have been happy with how he has played so far, he can improve.
RVP has been jekyll and hyde - good or invisible
started the season well but has disappeared in several games
and even in those invisible games he has tended to score, five goals already this season. It is part of his brilliance that even when silent, he can still get something
flamini has outsptripped every1s expectations and really pushed the tempo of games BUT can we trust him like we can gilberto in the huge games and connecting with the next point we look weak on crosses
I agree with you on this but Flamini really does deserve his place on form but I think Gilberto will win his place back eventually
toure and gallas are both such calm composed reactive defenders
they mark players not the ball
this means we are vulnerable to good deliveries on set pieces
gilberto is probably the most aerially dominant player we have
esp when ade doesn't play (he actuallt defends corners pretty well) we'll look very short 4corners
I agree with setplays being a problem, we could use more height or a keeper willing to come for the ball
fabregas is virtually impossible 2criticise this season - he's a genius
although imo some of cesc's average performances have been saved by goals and over-hyped - sperz being the first one that springs 2mind (bit like gerrard and fat franky - u know the drunk hack at the sun has him down4 8 out of 10 b4 kick off)
I agree with this, for me Hleb is our best player this season but Cesc gets all the credit from the press. Still, he is scoring and making things happen even on games were he isn't playing too well
goalies- fabianski flapped at everything v sheff u, jens is... well mad and no matter how well almunia plays - that 4-2 game v the mancs hurt me and he was at fault for more than one of those
Fabianski at least kept coming for the ball and made a good save. Jens is still a very good keeper and why are you holding Almunia down for something that happened two years ago, he has improved a lot since then. Almunia hasn't fully convinced me but he has done well
theo can't play on the wing - and hasn't really played as well as some quarters have made out. Good bursts but he hasn't forced his way in2 a game - dominated it.
He is an 18 year old who relies on confidence, he makes a very good impact player at the moment. Theo can play well enough on the wing but he is learning his trade, have patience my friend
senderos no matter how well he plays looks like he has a mistake in him
because we look for it, one stray pass in an otherwise brilliant game gets noticed then blown into a big thing whereas Richard's constant errors are overlooked until the 6-0 pawning as his lack of positional sense cost Man City big time for once
we have too many centremids and rightbacks
diarra and gilberto (two of the best imo) already expressed concern about this
We have 2 right backs, just that we can move a fair few to rightback if need be. I agree we have too many centremids, if not quite enough holding players but better then not having enough.
gilberto - calm, influential, leader - was punished by the withdrawal of the captaincy the other night and may be on his way out
Not according to the manager, it was Gilberto who suggested that the captaincy go to a young player rather then him
diarra (motm in both his starts 4me) is being held back and unless he plays he'll demand a move
Arsene knows how to use talent so not concerned about being held back. If he demands a move then he can go, he needs to be patient and his time will come
Eboue hasn't got2 grips with being a midfielder and he still dives embarrasingly and finishes poorly
I think, again, we look for things, had it been anyone else who Carragher got in the face then everyone would be screaming at the Liverpool player. though yes his finishing and wing play must improve, it will take time to adapt to the new role and if he doesn't we can flog him off
dudu's gr8 finishing has so far only manifested itself against crappy opposition (like the english NT)
Yeah, England are so bad they are only in the last eight three times out of three and have the best defensive record in the qualifiers. I mean I thought conceding the least amount of goals suggested a strong defence but clearly just means Dudu and all other strikers in the group are rubbish

Oh and Italy are merely the world champions, Israel are so well known for letting in hatricks! Yes Dudu hasn't got off to the best of starts for Arsenal but he takes several months to adapt to the game, in the CL he has shown he can score but here, he seems to take one touch to many, give him time.
when the african nations comes theoretically Song who has been excellent in defence in the leagueCup - could be called up2 cameroon
he is our 6th choice cb or something? By then hopefully our reverse team captain will be ready to step up
djourou and senderos are both a bit injury prone
as is Gallas and Mozart.

love the prediction though :P

If , after reading that old cack, we are going to do the quadruple, and you have money on it, I was just wondering what your predictions are like when you are in a slightly more optimistic mood! Your house on the quadruple, super cup and World Club Cup I suppose... 99 red balloons floating in the wind...

odds on the quadruble where £5000 - 1
imo they where the wrong odds

I put money on arsenal for the league at the beginning of the season because I thought the odds where wrong 14-1 on betfair

our start to the season was so easy I predicted believed we should/could win our first 9
jens fumble-fingers put paid2that

my plan was to resist the euphoria and sell my bet then
I didn't - I said we'd beat liverpool then I'd sell it
still haven't
its why I should never gamble on my own team
all pre-season cold hearted analysis can leave you

I believe there's a capacity for greatness in this squad
so I'm letting it roll

this was just an attempt to balance the euphoria
it was called a 'negative season review' ffs
I have faith in this group of players
doesn't mean they are without weaknesses

It sounds like the clinical examination of our squad that would be made by a non-Arsenal fan just to wind us all up.

There are some valid points though, but I don't like having my euphoria dampened, so let's hope tomorrow brings us the pick-me-up we need.

sorry....
a 'negative season review'
sounds negative....?
no shit sherlock

every player who played v the mancs basically lived up2 my criticism
we need to get rid of almunia
the botlejob performance that let the manc s win at highbury was replicated and nearly cost us again

rosicky couldn't get in2 the game
we looked weak on crosses
ebuoue was rubbish first half, theo not a winger
these things are all surmountable

but imo almunia's arsehole will go in big games
next

No one is saying that everything is perfect, I don't rate Almunia myself , he's supposed to be a second choice GK after all. But you have overstated things in you negative review. 90% of it is crap. Rosicky has been out injured for awhile and needs games, Theo has caused problems when coming on out wide this season late, and after the early getting caught out - when just on - he helped us score the equalizer, he's a striker though not a winger,so I agree with you that we need a proper winger . We would have won Saturday if avoiding that lapse of concentration for Fake Ronaldo to tap in. He had done nothing all game up until then , and neither did hot-shot Teves. Hargreaves was rubbish, all that shouting his mouth off about our goals is to try and cover that up. But the truth is United conceded two goals - and it could have been more, Gallas was unlucky with his header , which was the only decent attempt on goal by both sides in the first half! We will still be top come next Monday night. We have to take things one game at a time.

To agree with everything, is what I believe that you mean. No you were far too negative and your points about the players against United leaves out the fact that some like Hleb, were hampered by Wenger's 4-5-1 tactics.
He admitted afterwards that he should have played 4- 4 -2. Wenger bottles these big games at times by being over cautious, yes the hand brake was on , but he put it on himself!

Read my lips... I blame WENGER's tactics for the way that some players under performed against United. And he himself agrees!

To suggest that your negative comments are correct for the whole season must be a wind up!
If the players you claim are this bad then how come they have set a new club record for the start of a season; and are unbeaten in all domestic and Euro competitions ?

Your views are, apart from a couple of points, complete and utter cack.

highburyJD, I thought redbull was defending players like Mozart and Walcott rather then agreeing with you. I thought Mozart played well as did Eboue, we got a draw with one of the bet teams in Europe at the moment, could have won it and your being negative?

the title is negative season review
all that I'm attempting 2do is analyse negatives
anaylsing positives would be a much longer post
but less helpful
redballs is right that v manure wenger's 'performance' was as much a downside as anyone elses
could argue the same about last night
but it was important 2rest hleb and fabregas
personally I'd have reversed diaby and denilson's positions if we had 2play 4-2-3-1
dudu and walcott do not look like wingers
