Theo's Ferrari rejected
Calm down, everyone. If they hadn't renewed Theo's contract this summer he would have left on a free and everyone would be crying about how arsenal cant hold onto their 'stars'. I bet he also generates loads of PR-related income being one of our few big names.
And whatever his performances or fitness, the fact remains that someone like Arry Redknapp would still cough up £10 million for him if we chose to sell him. As for his actual salary, Arsenal dont ever disclose these things so its a guess but generally, and sadly, £65k aint much in the grand scheme of things these days.

However, he's worked his way into that situation, and if a club is foolish enough to shell out that amount, then he's entitled to reap the rewards.
I'm not sure how it's "sticking two fingers up at the fans". What's he supposed to do with the money, give it all to charity? He's not the first player to earn a hefty sum whilst performing badly, and he won't be the last.
I'm sure Mr Rosicky has spent his fair share whilst fannying around on the sidelines for the past three years; is that outrageous too?
Blame management for handing over the cash, don't blame the players for "taking advantage". I'm sure that if the club offered £65k to anyone on this forum they wouldn't feel guilty about accepting.
people just love moaning and will find the smallest things to blow out of proportion for a good ol' rant.
I've been watching The Arse for nearly 30 years but I've got a young family to look after and I can only do that because my small business has just about survived the recession.
Going Up The Arse was one of very few pleasures but because the players are so f**king greedy, I just can't afford to get to many matches now and most of my mates don't bother - all life-long supporters. So many Gooners moan about Johnny Come Lately fans or about the stadium emptying with 10 minutes to go and this is a major part of why that has happened.
The hard-core have been priced out and replaced with people that can take it or leave it. When the players got £10grand a week they demanded 20; when they got £20grand they demanded 30 and so it went on and we're the mugs paying for it. And most of them wouldn't give you the steam off their piss!
Why does a 20 year old need £65,000 a week??

Totally agree with your post but its market forces if he doesnt get that money at Arsenal he will go to a club that will pay him itJumpers For Goalposts wrote:You two must both have far more money than me.MM99 wrote:finally a bit of sense in this thread.Bring Back Pires wrote:I agree that he hasn't done anything on the pitch to warrant receiving £65k per week, and it's a sad state of affairs than someone can become so rich by doing absolutely nothing.

But that is also down to the greed of most players - they play one club off against another at contract negotiation time. It seems to be all about the money for so many of them and you can't get away from the fact that, whether you're a Gooner, a Mackem or a bell ringing Pompey twat, we're the ones funding it all.
The billionaire owners that have turned up recently have only done it to make even more money or to boost their already HUGE ego.
Look at England Capt and media darling John Terry (actually don't look at the ugly chav wanker). He's on £6.5million a year but he still wants to collect £10grand in a plastic bag for showing people round the training ground. When will enough be enough for these tossers?
What did they shout in Jerry Maguire?
SHOW ME THE MONEY!!

Walcott isn't single-handedly responsible for this. Footballers across the world merit lucrative sums of money. Is this really breaking news?Jumpers For Goalposts wrote:Going Up The Arse was one of very few pleasures but because the players are so f**king greedy, I just can't afford to get to many matches now and most of my mates don't bother - all life-long supporters.
Besides, he's been on this contract for months - why take issue with it now? If the media hadn't reported his purchase of - shock horror, a car - then you wouldn't even have commented.

No. I charge up to 50% less than many competitors and we are frequently told that our service is a lot better. I've kept overheads low so that we can undercut the corporate fat cats. And anyway - why overcharge someone because you won't get repeat business.EC3 wrote:Jumpers - So i assume the business you run you never try to maximise your income by charging your customers as much as possible.
I sound like a raging Communist or Socialist but I'm not - I f**king hate left-wing politics. I just don't believe in taking the piss out of people.

I understand that Theo's people would maximise his contract, my issue would be why are we stupid enough to pay it, no wonder our wage bill matches the Utd's etc.
He should have been offered to city last summer and taken whatever part of the £12m we could have got back, Wright-Philips, Millner and Lennon are so much more effective than he is. His finishing is appalling (a worry when Wenger calls him on of the best finishers at the club) his football brain is non existent (just watch his movement as Arsenal attack), he can't beat a full back and his crossing is average at best.
BuT he is Quick!!!! Thank fuck for that

well cry me a fucking river. guess what? i can't afford to go to many games either, and i don't have sky cos it's just too expensive. i have to make do with watching games on shitty streams on the net. there are people out there a lot worse off than me and you, thats life. theres no point bitching about it. the game is now a business and theres ridiculous amounts of money being thrown about. either accept that or dont. if you dont accept it then im not sure why youre still interested in football cos it isnt going to change. and thinking that footballers are going to turn down pay rises is just stupid. believe it or not its not just the players fault for their wages increasing. if player A says to his club give me 20k instead of 10k and they say no fuck off and no other club offers 20k then hes forced to shut his mouth and accept 10k. but when another rival club comes in and offers 20k then we have a market. again, this isnt just down to the lpayers, its the football business as a whole. this whole thing is a lot bigger than blaming a 20 year oldJumpers For Goalposts wrote:You two must both have far more money than me.MM99 wrote:finally a bit of sense in this thread.Bring Back Pires wrote:I agree that he hasn't done anything on the pitch to warrant receiving £65k per week, and it's a sad state of affairs than someone can become so rich by doing absolutely nothing.

and yes i agree with you that most 'real' fans are being priced out but what the fuck does that have to do with theo? football has been going this route since the 90s when theo was still in nappies, whats it got to do with him? so what if he chooses to buy a ferrari, its his money, just face the truth the only reason youre jumping on this story is because its theo, and hes been shit and injured, and then shit again, and then even more injured. it simply comes down to the fact that you dont like him and are looking to have a dig no matter what its about. i didnt see too many posts like this when henry bought his 300,000 mercedes...

You can't beat a healthy debate - and we could discuss this for hours.
But if you look at what I've written I haven't slagged Walcott off at all - I don't rate him but I haven't slagged him off in this thread.
My point is that football's business model is heading the same way as our brilliant banks, unsustainable debt due to greed (by players, directors and agents) and it will be us mugs that have to pick up the pieces again.
Pompey and Palace can't afford to pay their players at the moment, several clubs have gone into administration because their overheads were too high and two of the world's biggest clubs L'pool and ManUre are struggling to re-finance their huge debts. That just can't go on without a massive downturn.
And I have been whinging about players' wages for years, both on here and in the Gooner magazine.

radford would like to add that theo theo is in the business of being theo wallcott. he is just about himself, he courts publicity gives interviews at every opportunity an will jump a the chance to appear in rags lke hello.
yes he can spend his money how he wants but what sort of bloke (one without a brain) would buy his student bird a car such as that? he knows full well that it will make the papers and maybe felt it would show him in a good light.
radford feels that it's just another sad indication of what's wrong with some young players. the need to improve his game (and boy does it need improving) should be his priority and not splashing his dosh

And if anyone doubts that millions of people are slowing being turned off football, or rather what football has turned into -
have a look (ITV4) at the crowd in the Ricoh Arena for the Coventry v Portsmouth FA Cup replay - it looks like a bad reserve match. I swear each fan could have a whole row of seats to themselves!!
But it is a huge match for both teams as they desperately need a cup run. Coventry were 30 minutes away from insolvency last year and Pompey are heading the same way. If people can't be bothered to turn up to watch this (or would rather watch it on the box) what confidence does that give you for the future?
