Arsenal vs Liverpool August 1987

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Arsenal vs Liverpool August 1987

Post by SammyDroppedHisShorts »

Anyone know where I can get a photo of the Arsenal fans who sat on the old North Bank roof for the fixture we lost 2-1 on a bloody hot day....57,003 Gooners in the ground or something.

Be great to see that pic again.

Well done PHP..... If you look at that pic its the people under the north bank roof that bring back memories climbing up holding onto a post, we played Liverpool in 1984 (i think) beating them with a Brian Talbot freekick i was 13 at the time and i climbed up some railings in the north bank so i could see and hung on for dear life for 90 minutes....

Health and safety wouldnt allow it these days

Hmmm, I was at the 87 and the 84 (?) Talbot free kick one, I can't remember too much about either game... :? Was the Talbot free kick scored at the clock-end... :? :? (my memory is useless)

That Brian Talbot free kick was his 2nd in that week at Highbury. He did it against Newcastle too in the week and John Motson called it " ala Platini " He also scored a flying header too against Liverpool if the Chunky memory bank is correct!

I also recall him scoring a hat trick at Highbury, I think it was against Man City, (can't remember the year though (early 80's)) :?

It certainly was. I was stood behind that goal, a tiny bit to the right of the post. Think it was the only free-kick of that ilk Talbot ever scored for us!!
