Yes, but that would surly "kill" Wengers own chances of making it to midfield!

We are now halfway through the transfer window period. And I think it is safe to say, that we won't be making any major signings. Whether or not this will prove costly, we must wait and see.
To strengthen sufficiently to win the title would require at least 3 major signings, and that certainly won't happen. By costly I mean us getting dragged into a fight for a top 4 finish, which at the minute could probably be secured by the signing of either a dfm, a striker or genuine cover at centre back.

I think it would be impossible to bring in 3 players and get them to gel into the team in this window, especially if we need them mainly for the next 4 weeks.

If Wenger were to buy, it would be better to buy proven premier league players rather than players who have never experienced our league. Look at Aquilani, looks well out of place and a lot of players take half a season sometimes even a whole season to get used to the PL.

So based on the fact we haven't signed anyone yet it means we're not going to. Just like last January when we signed Arshavin as the clock struck midnight on New Year's Eve yes?

3 major signings? At least? We could go top of the league on Wednesday and you think we need THREE, MAJOR signings?

I know you're pessimistic mate but fuck me, get a little perspective perhaps? The teams below us are fighting amongst themselves not to finish 4th. 3rd is the lowest we'll go. Now I'm not saying we're going to win the league but we're in a good spot right now. Clearly we need a striker and I'd say also a keeper, but you make it sound like we're about to be relegated. I think we'll get a striker but unfortunately will have to endure the Spanish waiter a while longer.

On Arshavin, we were openly chasing the player throughout the jan window, the only reason it took went to the wire, was due to the 2 clubs bickering over the fee.
I think we would have to add quality cover at centre back and in the dfm positions, to go with as you suggested a striker and a keeper. If the unthinkible happens and Vermalen and Song were to join the injury list, then we would be found wanting.
Now I think we will beat utd and the pool in the coming weeks, we could sneak a win at Villa, however a draw is more realistic, I don't see us coming away form chavski with anything. However a couple of injuries could quite easily see these games turn into a fucking nightmare, and knock the team's confidence big time and that is exactly how we could find ourselves back in the fight to stay in the top 4.

Fair enough and all fair points. I just don't think we're in that bad a situation. For what it's worth I think we should do Liverpool and Villa (who seem to be starting a patch of form similar to this time last year, no goals in 3 games), a definite chance to beat united, and we have to hope for a big performance at the bridge to get something.

Can we realistically get someone in who would do a better job than diaby or eastmond (who I thought fared well yesterday bar a couple of slack passes, either way miles better than denilson against everton) at a reasonable price, IF Song got injured? I don't think that's a majorly worrying area. I still believe we'll get a striker.

As AW says I really do want a world class striker. Put all the other problems aside if we had someone like Torres with the amount of possesion we have he'd bag loads. Also he'd be able to hold the ball up as another option.

Now I'm not saying we should go for Torres (well, we could try! ) but someone of that quality nature.

I like Bentdner but I think we shouldn't have to wait for our strikers to become....as we've seen many have never become! We should always be looking to improve.
Also we know RVP's been unlucky with injuries and I still think he's a make-shift lone striker.

oh and not being picky I'd take a decent keeper as well!
