a rosetinter's letter to wenger

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Fletcher and Park have won 3 titles and a Champions League. And been to another final. Giggs and Scholes have done that and a truck load more, and are modern legends of the game.

Walcott and Bender have done fcuk all. FCUK ALL!!

i had to check the meaning of 'grovelling' in the dictionary

but no mate, think what you will, but i am grateful to le boss and i'll forever be. i'm sure there aren't many fellas around that can do better than him, and i'd be glad to see him stay for another decade.
I'm sure you would as it's not costing you a penny

it is, mate. i pay around 50 pounds a month to have cable in my home, and i only use it to watch our games (i hate television). and believe me mate, in brazil it's quite hard to earn 50 pounds, it's like earning 200 pounds in england. i buy every home and away shirt, i am a subscriber of the arsenal tv online (which is more expensive to me as there is extra taxation from the credit card company for it being a foreign service), and i am also a subscriber of the gooner. i buy scarves, ties, and lots of shit every season. in september, i'll be spending around 1000 pounds to fly to london and watch a couple of our games in my vacation.

in the end, comparing how hard it is for me to earn one pound here in brazil, you can be sure i work a lot more to be able to watch and support the arsenal than you do.

once again, being a fan is more about the passion and how much you love your team then how much money you spend on it. and i'm sure i love the arsenal as much as you do, mate
Fair play to you mate, I'm sure there will be quite few people on this forum willing to have a drink or five with you when you visit us in September

If you play for a premiership club you get rich. Get over it.

Put the titles and medals Flecther,Park,Scholes and Giggs have won on the table and what Bendtner and Walcott have won and tell me we are not overpaying our squad players.

Percy you are on a wind up

if that's true, romário must be earning 300,000+ at america

it's not how many medals he has at home, but how much he can actually contribute to the team that should be the decisive factor when you set a player's wages.

which means that almunia should be earning a maximum 200 pounds a week :x

The problem is that at Manure the likes of Anderson etc. are on 30-40k a week whereas at Arsenal the likes of Denilson, Ramsey, Daiby etc. are all on 50-55k a week. The average wage is therefore pretty similar.
When the figures were released back in August it was rated across the first team squads only at all clubs ( I believe they quoted on 23 players). So we are genuinely only £2m below them. I agree it seems ridiculous, but it is true mate.

Excellent letter Brazilian. Any truly great team needs to have a goalkeeper who digs out a result on his own when those in front of him fail to perform. In the mid '70s I had the misfortune to watch a shower of mediocrities (who couldn't hold a candle to even the weakest members of our current crop) get bailed out week after week by Jimmy Rimmer who, along with Brian Kidd, saved us from relegation. Full stop. Almunia makes some good saves sometimes and has some competent enough games on occasion but I cannot recall a single time when he was, basically, man of the match. Sure, he kept the score down at Old Trafford in the Champion's League Semi but then proceeded to undermine the first part of his display by effectively falling apart in the second leg. Whatever the underlying reasons are he demonstrably does not have what it takes to occupy such a pivotal position in the team.
It has come to the point that anything - however desperate and futile it appears - that questions the manager's baffling persistence with the hapless Spaniard is not only welcome but actually imperative.
Send it.

i have just sent it. thank you very much, mate. 8)

i do understand that a good keeper makes huge mistakes from time to time. the greatest ones i ever saw, taffarel, preud'homme, zubizarreta, schmeichel, illgner, they all fucked up from time to time. but that means costing 1-3 points per season, not double figures like almunia. you are completely right, i doubt i'll see the day when i can come out and say "fuck me, almunia saved us today" like lehmann and seaman did so many times. (and surely the likes of jennings did too)

it is unacceptable that the team of francesc fabregas and robin van persie who i rate as top top top footballers has someone like almunia behind the sticks. it simply does not make any sense.
