Gilberto/Diarra/Flamini
I think Wenger is making a big mistake putting Flamini ahead of Gilberto in the midfield, whatever the reasons. Ahead of the Liverpool game I assumed he would put Gil. in. Look at the Liverpool goal - Flamini made THREE errors. First he was tackled near his own goal by Gerrard, then he skied the ball which led to their free-kick, then he broke off from the wall and they scored.
Calling him Gattuso is ridiculous, sure, he has great stamina and gets around, and he was great at left back in the champ league run of 2005-2006, but physically he is too small. He always loses one on ones, his passing is poor - he is a good all-round player, but we want to win the Premier League and the Champions League, and you do that with World Cup Winners like Gilberto, or prospects who clearly have more talent, like Denilson and Diarra. I think Wenger is trying to keep Flamini happy so that he will stay, but it will COST US POINTS!!! I'm sorry, but he is the weak link in this amazing team.

True. Matt has well and truly earned his place in the team. If we can still be top at the end of the year with a weak link in the midfield it cant be all bad...
Personally I've always liked Flamini, whether it was his typical no-nonsense style or the fact you KNEW he gave you everything every game, or whether he was chipping in with important goals. I did understand he wasnt the best technically in our side, and he still isn't, but tell you what, him and Almunia have shown an amazing improvement in their game in the last year and turned it into performances, thats why they're there..I really like Diarra and of course its hard to see Gilberto regularly benched but the team should stay as it is for me..there'll be plenty of chances for the other boys by the end of the year..

he's been good.... to say he's been brilliant is a bit of an over statement,,
he's stood out a bit against crap teams because cesc has carried the midfield
the two last league games he's been shown up for what he is,, a mucker,,
now i agree every team needs a mucker to get stuck in. but i would still argue the team would be stronger with bert in there or diarra,,
i know a few will disagree but do you think flamini is the guy that wins titles for our club

Who knows? I guess we'll know in May. Whether he is our most gifted defensive midfielder or not, he is earning his place in the team. He didn't have the best of games against Liverpool, but neither did Cesc. Should we drop him?
In Flamini, Gilberto and Diarra, I think we have three brilliant defensive midfielders and I feel comfortable with them in my side. I honestly can't believe that some of us give Flamini stick when we have players in our side like Adebayor who are regularly dreadful.

the Flanimal has been very good this season and every player makes mistakes or doesnt play well so his inclusion in the team has been on merit so far. He isnt a flair player but we do need players like him. I am a Gilberto fan as you might have seen in previous threads and i think Gilberto deserves a chance but id never say Flamini is a weak link i think his hard slog type of play has allowed Cesc to push forward with brilliant effect on our team
