Excellent Myles Palmer article

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

A fan, short for fanatic, aficionado, or supporter is someone who has an intense, occasionally overwhelming liking and enthusiasm for a sporting club, person (usually a celebrity), group of persons, company, product, activity, work of art, idea, or trend.

Is that you? Notice the words enthusiasm and liking. You seem to enthusiastically moan and you seem to like whinning, but i'm pretty sure we can agree you arent either of those things, when it comes to supporting the team.

Tell me I'm wrong?
To be fair, whether you agree with Augie or not, you cannot question his passion for Arsenal.... hell, his posts are practically dripping with pain and suffering! - so who gives a shit if he doesn't fit snuggly into your dictionary definition of 'fan' or 'supporter'.... in fact, if you ask me, football is VERY different to being a fan of art, a person, a trend, or an activity.... it's a way of life; it's in your blood. You live it and breath it, so shove your Oxford dictionary up your arse mate
HAHAHA!

The dictionary definition doesn't suit my argument, so I'm going to ignore it! Then I will add some smileys and I have the perfect post! :barscarf:

actually his praise for Hleb was spot on, even though it wasnt really praise. Hleb is far and away better than Nasri, at least for our team he was. if we could trade them for each other right now I wouldnt hesitate.

the title of this thread is a contradiction in terms
why even bother blogging about a team you don't support...?

I don't think it matters really, does it? :? - he gives his opinions on Arsenal, and that's that. I have no problem with it, to be honest.

we've degenerated to calling people names?

i support Arsenal Football Club. the club is above ANY individual, whether that be a manager, a boardmember, a particular player... it always will be. i am a fan of Arsenal, not of Denilson, not of Fiszman… and more recently, not of Mr. Wenger.

i was one of the people who believed in Mr. Wenger. when many were slagging him off, i supported him and believed he would turn the club around with his rebuilding process. maybe you could call me a rosetinter, but i thought that we should at the very least give him the benefit of a doubt, even through the past few seasons. however, i am now becoming more disenfranchised with the way he is running the squad. our team is making the same mental & tactical mistakes over and over again, and he refuses to add any players while rewarding those who play subpar football repeatedly.

i feel that maybe Mr. Wenger wants to add players with a certain mindset, or players that can adapt to our specific way of play. maybe he doesn’t wish to add a player who commands too much attention or salary, as they would distract from the current team concept. if that's his thinking, i can’t argue with that. but i assure you that if he would have added one or two strong squad players this past transfer window (and not necessarily star players), many of us would have been relieved that he was actually trying to win the league when this year… a year that it wasn’t out of the question. but, as Kevin Palmer from ESPN states, "Instead, he stuck by those who have failed him in the past and it is a gamble that is likely to come back to haunt him." i couldn't agree with this more.

perhaps this season could have been different had Robin not been injured, or had Samir been healthy all year long… or if we did not have to scramble at leftback for a good portion of the year. the fact is that injuries happen. it is part of football. we did nothing to prepare for them… and after squeaking by lower teams, we were finally embarrassed & put in our place by a real title contender. with a new state-of-the-art stadium that replaced our spiritual home, a new sponsorship deal and ever increasing ticket prices, we were lead to believe that we would challenge for titles. we were lied to.

this is why many on this board are so frustrated. they love the club with a passion that cannot be underrated… and that is why they are so angered. if they didn’t love the club so much, they wouldn’t be as upset. they would just accept whatever official slant the club’s PR department gave and ignorantly followed.. thinking that the world was flat and that we're at the center of the universe. i believe that’s the difference between been simply being a “fanâ€
