Southend Utd, local team. Celtic, my "scottish team" for no other reason than that I loved the name when I first started taking an interest in footy and reading the results in the papers about 1968, the second thing I noticed was that around that time, they won, week in week out so thought I was onto a good thing
Rochdale for no reason whatsoever
Citeh because of the "enemy of my enemy is my friend" thing. I'm not a neuvau united hater, hated them since the late 60s so the citeh thing is long term, obviously ruined this season by the greedytwatcuntbeyor thing and the fact that they now can buy their way to success. For some reason, probably some childish nostalgia, I always want teams that I remember being in the football league but are no longer now to do well in their various divisions, including, Workington, Barrow, Southport, Bradford Park Avenue and some others I probably can't remember right now

Brighton, because I live near there.
Wycombe Wanderers, because I lived near there.
Crawley Town, because I was raised there.
Burgess Hlll Town, because I live there.
If I ever move to Manchester, I shall support.....Plymouth Argyle.
Green Army, Green Army, Green Army...

AFC Wimbledon. I saw my first ever game at Plough Lane and always had a soft spot for The Dons. I do miss them being mental, hating Manure, winding up the scousers, kicking the shit out of the spuds and chavs but always praising us. I think the way the fans stood up and started their own team when they killed the club and moved to ****** Keynes showed what real football is about. I look forward to seeing them in the league soon.
Oh, and I like Barnet too.

AFC Wimbledon came to Burgess Hill for a cup match a few years ago.Perryashburtongroves wrote:AFC Wimbledon. I saw my first ever game at Plough Lane and always had a soft spot for The Dons. A totally mental day. Wimbledon fans were brilliant. And nearly drank the bar dry.

I have moved round the country a bit and always went to watch the local team when I fancied seeing a game and City were far away.
I grew up with Wolves as a second team, purely because they shared subbuteo kit 6 with us and had a Wagstaff.
I was in Birmingham for the Championship and the European Cup and still have a soft spot for Villa.
I lived eleven years in Hackney, Holloway, Highway and Homerton (and Stroud Green) and always looked out for the Arse.
I moved to Suffolk and became quite enamoured of Ipswich. I even have a soft spot for Col U.
Given the English fixture list of 46 matches each weekend, I can find a reason to prefer one side over the other in every case.*
At various times I have wondered whether my new team might replace my first love (especially as said first love was living in ever reduced circumstances). It never, ever does.
* That said, I spent Wednesday night in a total quandary. The Fey Fops from your locale played the Great Satan from ours (L**ds played Spurs in t'Cup). Aside from hoping for a pox on both their houses and embarrassing own goals resulting in a penalty shoot-out I can rarely recall thinking "I hope they both lose".
