CHELSEA AWAY THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Fully agree Rob

As I've stated on another thread we are a team that aims no higher than finishing top 4.

What makes it worse is that we don't bother to put a strong side out in the FA Cup so we end up with no silverware.

There is a very strong liklihood that Spuds will have a better return this
season than us. FA Cup plus top 4 finish. It is very possible.
How embarrassing would that be.

Re tomorrow I can can see 4-0 Chavs unfortunately!!

In summary I think that the board has found its comfort zone. With a minimum spend it has capacity stadium week in week out, CL every season, a shot at all competitions without every actually winning any and all the while making them persoanlly wealthier. The board needs to be shaken from this malaise.

I personally hope they smash us, maybe then arsene will stop supporting that useless peice of shit we have between the sticks and realise signing 35 year old has beens was NOT strengthening our defence.

I hate that i've been driven to think like that but unfortunatly i've taken all the mediocre players and shite excuses i can stomach!

Toughest test of the season so far for us.

Since the beginning of the EPL, Chelsea have only managed 8 wins against us (4 home & away). This is from 35 league matches.

Arsenal with 16 wins.

But we've lost 3 of the last 4 matches between the sides in the League.

Arsenal have conceded 28 this season, several of those coming the way of crosses. Of Chelsea's 58 goals scored in the league 17! have come the way of a cross. Exactly how things went at the Emirates (by way of crosses).

We have scored 44 of our 60 goals from open play. Almost half of Chelsea's goals conceded have come from open play. So Arsenal can take inspiration from that.

We all know how difficult, in fact impossible it was to break them down at home, although they are going through a sticky patch (can it be called that? they are 11/12 wins at home!) but they've only kept a clean sheet once in the past 5 home games.

Out of their 24 league games this season they have only managed to miss the target once.

We have conceded 7 at home in our last 3 matches but we can take inspiration that we've kept a clean sheet on our last 2 away league fixtures.

A surprising statistic is that Chelsea have conceded 1st in 8 matches this term but not against opposition you would expect - Hull (x2), Fulham, West Ham, Everton, Wigan, Stoke & Sunderland. They won 4, drew 3 and lost 1. Notably they didn't concede first against any of the bigger sides in the league.

They played 3 matches this season against the 'Big 4' and kept a clean sheet on each occasion.

Overall Arsenal need to gain the upper hand early. Of the 15 games we've scored first in this season we have won 12 and lost only 1 (v Utd).

Come on you gooners! :barscarf:

I forsee some calamity from average Al followed by that dim look on his face as he takes in the consequences of another major fuck up. Cesc will be instructing his agent after this game I reckon too.

I am going to be watching this through my fingers from behind the sofa. :( After last week's drubbing I reckon confidence will be shot and as soon as the Chavs score heads will go down, add in a couple of errors from the usual suspects and we might see a repeat of the 6-1 at manure.

Really, really not looking forward to this at all. The only thing that couls make it worse could be our shell shocked team going up against a resurgent bindippers and getttinsg stuffed.

The one hope I have is that this team always seem to manage a surprise so lets hope today is one of those!

Whilst I do think we'll lose & I hope it's not too embarassing, part of me hopes that a severe drubbing might open AW's eyes to some of the mediocrity on the pitch, although I doubt he'll admit it or do anything about it.

I just hope Terry gets a severe barracking from the travelling Gooners & anything else we get from the game will be a bonus for me...

After 11 at night and I am going to bed...waking up at 3am for the game which, coincidentally, will be early on my birthday Australian time. An Arsenal win would be a nice start to my 19th year. :barscarf:

Nah i aint too worried about this one. We might lose, but it certainly aint gonna be convincing. We had a good number of chances last weekend and if we take 1 or 2 early on i feel we can end chelseas home reign. Realistically speaking it most prolly aint gonna happen but hey last season we lost 2-1 to stoke and then beat chelsea 2-1 at the bridge so i aint rulin out nothin.
