Usual thread starter… I’m just going to repeat some text from the exclusive here to begin with: “For those that have a problem with helping the man out, please respect his condition and simply keep your own counsel rather than criticise this initiative.â€

good idea.

Or why not another testimonial next summer between the two, considering how much Ashburton takes in on a match day. Or host it abroad, so Arsenal and Liverpool's far east support can get to watch the two sides with the money going to a worthy cause?

Would it be possible to organise a bucket appeal for a cash collection at the Arsenal-Liverpool game in question?
It would require the Club's co-operation and authorisation and some pre-publicity but I for one would be happy to rattle a bucket.
Kev mentioned his League Championship winner at WHL, but he also scored the in the Fairs Cup away leg when we looked dead and buried at 3-0 down.

Just get Arsenal and Liverpool to join forces and give him the money and let him keep his medals. They are both rich clubs.I am against a testimonial why should the fans fork out when the clubs can afford it.

Say what you like about George Graham but when he heard about his old pals plight he immediately arranged a plate dinner and then the benefit match which was a great and spontaneous effort !

Was also great to watch Souness lunging into players again and hear Kenny D whining to the ref all day long.

Liverpool and Arsenal should not buy the medals they should make copies of them and let Ray keep the originals untill he dies, b4 giving them to the museum. In return they should then pay him a monthly stipend to make sure he is comfortable for the rest of his days.

Unfortunately I have more chance of seeing the cow jump over the moon !

If there's a match in aid of Ray then at Anfield would suit best because it was already played at Highbury back in 1990 which not that many turned up as testimonals weren't as big at the time as now
As of a fans match it would be a great idea & people like myself would make the effot for charity despite not playing football much & being over weight & onlt being quite young  but i don't think either team will do anything for him as it will lay down to us fans in making money for him, maybe if a chairty is set up then Arsenal could have that as the season charity next season

As someone who was at WHL that night I'm very willing to support any initiative. Can I suggest a raffle rather than auction for the shirt etc as it's much easier to put in £5 or £10 than bid hundreds at an auction. From recent events at Highbury House the raffle generates more think £5 times a conservative 5000 or more who saw him play. Get the team to sign a few more shirts - lots of us would love one. And why wait until the end of the season? We could do something maybe over the Chrismas games. Sounds like Ray could use the money now before he sells those medals. What would he have left?

They should play Arsenal v Liverpool out here. :D

Hype it up, play it at the Olympic Stadium here in Sydney, and they could get 80,000 people in easy.

Or maybe for a month or so 5% from any merchandise over say $50 can be donated??

I think that's a great idea for the longer term but it would take time to organise. It sounds like something more immediate is needed to help Ray out.

My suggestion would be to get the team to sign a full set of squad shirts (in their spare time, now we've qualified for the next stage of the CL) and set up a raffle, with tickets at £5 to be sold at the next few home games, Arsenal.com, the uncopyrighted Online Gooner and anywhere else. The generous people who bid at auctions tend to buy more tickets too.

It would make a nice Christmas present for the man who almost inadvertently started the chain of events that ended in the 1971 Double with his consolation goal at Anderlecht. The raffle could be drawn symbolically by John Radford on the pitch at the Arsenal-Spurs game on 22nd Dec. Nice reminder too for ALL 60,000 there of WHL71.
