Usual thread starter… Do you think there is English quality good enough for Arsenal? Can you see Arsene using more English players at any time in the future? Do you actually care about the nationality of Arsenal’s players?

I think S. Taylor could have made it although he did wait a long time and just wasn't given a long run as first choice.
Maybe Pennant and Bentley could play in todays squad and although Pennant was my favorite young player i think Arsene was right to get rid of them because there attitudes were not 100% focused on football.
Since leaving Arsenal Pennant and Bentley have cleaned up there acts and done well for themselves.
Same they didn't learn while they was younger and at Arsenal.

Well firstly if Fergie is going to give out lessons in patriotism he'd do well to remember that he is a Scot and how many scots have come through the ranks at Man Utd. apart from Brian McClair - none. Seeing that they're good enough to beat the French how about practicisng what you preach and buying a few? Then again seeing the way they were dumped out of Mexico 86 on his watch he hasn't given much back to Scotland.
Secondly if he wants to talk about imports causing a dearth his own presence has helped with the poor state of English managers, so pot and kettle there Fergie.
Thirdly if he wants to talk about not bringing youth through I'd like to ask what Russell Beardsmore, Tony Gill and Lee Martin are doing with themselves these days?
You have to ask yourself why someone who has achieved as much as he has in the game is so unliked and it's down to the fact that he's such a boorish, charmless and ungracious wanker. He likes to think stupid comments like this are Psychology but sadly Fergie lacks the intelligence to even spell the word.

Sir Alex
Well researched article but all these recent outbursts against Arsenal, security at the Emirates,Highbury was a rubbish stadium, our so called beautiful football,is his way of trying to destabilize the team. You will recall once Chelsea became dominate it was them he was attacking and he left us alone,in fact at times he was quite complimentary about Arsene. Now of course we are again his biggest rivals and he fears us so he must attack us.It`s sad in a way,for his own sake he should retire at the end of this season before respect turns to pity.

My general view (as expressed in a previous thread) is that we shouldn't rise to Fergie's bait. He's trying to wind us up and the best response is a dignified silence.
But since the attack on foreign players goes wider than Fergie, it's worth trying to demolish one argument that is regularly trotted out against them which that having so many foreign players in the Premier League damages the national team and its chances of success.
The influx of foriegn players only really started in earnest with the birth of the PL in 1992. So logically, our national side ought to have been more successful beforte that point than it has been since.
And the grand total of trophies won by England between, say, 1950 and 1992? One, thanks to home advantage and a dodgy decision by a linesman
