Should FA Cup and League Cup Games now be free?

Should FA Cup and League Cup Games now be free?

Post by rigsby »

I was thinking about this at work today, and it may sound ridiculous at first but if you think about it, why are we paying for our season tickets (which include FA Cup games) and CC tickets (which are cheaper seperately) when the manager has pretty much come out and said that these trophies mean nothing to Arsenal and he will sacrafice them.

Surely then when we go away to teams in the Carling Cup or FA Cup we should go free of charge, why should we have to pay the full price knowing the shit he's going to put out. Now some will say, 'well we're fans we go whatever' or 'you know the team he's going to put out'. Fair points, but it doesn't make it any less right. The club is thus exploiting the loyalty of those who go to these games, by charging us to watch a reserve side.

For me these tickets should be either made free OR at a knock down price of about 5 quid each on general sales, with each season ticket holder being given the choice of whether they want to include the FA Cup tickets on their season ticket, or just have the league games at a cheaper price.

Its just an idea, was wondering if anybody else here feels the same way.

Carling Cup games are sold at knock down prices already. I'd say £10 for a ticket just about covers the cost of policing, stewarding, energy etc. If we're going to play a weakened squad in the FA cup, we should start putting the same discount on FA Cup games.

Btw, were League Cup games always so cheap? I remember Reading in 2005 being a cheap ticket, but can't remember any LC games before then being heavily discounted.

Its a disgrace not taking the cup seriously. And I think you have a point.

Free tickets would never happen but if we are going to stick out a kiddy side in the FA cup then we should pay the same as we do for Carling cup.

We should have a strong enough squad to atleast consistently put out a quality starting 11, in the league, CL AND FA CUP!

Not sure mate, I'm pretty sure I paid quite a bit for us against United when we beat them 4 nil at Highbury. And yeah I did say the CC games were cheap, just thinking that the FA Cup ones should now be the same

In that case, completely agree  We've pretty much avoided it so far, but what's going to happen when we draw a Conference side in the FA Cup? No-one's going to spend £35 - 70 on a dead rubber.

And likewise, what happens when we draw someone like Villa at home in the Cup, then have Man U 3 days later? We'll clearly play a weakened side, and we'll clearly get hammered. Those tickets aren't going to shift!

I think the Carling Cup will have to be taken seriously. I love watching the Reserve/Youth players but any more, I want a full-strength team or close to one in the future.

I think's it was quite disrespectfull to past winners of The Football League Cup what Arsene said about it.

At the end of the day, I can never understand why anyone can turn there nose up at any cup. The Carling Cup has been excellent this season as a spectable and, dare I say it, better entertainment than The FA Cup. I love both the competition's and want us to win both. :barscarf:

Have I mentioned a letter writing campaign yet? It's the only way to get a direct access to Gazidis or Friar. Let them know our views and that we object to having to pay for a competition that Wenger thinks is shit.

The thing I don't get, is both United and Chelsea seem to be able to balance the cups with the league and CL. United nearly won all 4 last year!

The FA Cup is a beautiful, historical competition and for Wenger to piss it away yearly is an absolute disgrace and seriously unforgivable.

i'm not sure about free but we should definitely have carling cup prices given that wenger treats this competition as third best.

Not sure what would happen with away games though - i presume the home team sets the prices?

i think back to stoke away - cost me about £75 inc travel for that shower of shite. Maybe arsenal could subsidise tickets prices or lay on free travel?

they cannot be serious - increasing prices!!! they should be reducing to reflect the lack of investment in the team!!!

arsenal build a team on the cheap so we should get to watch them on the cheap!

If Arsenal put their prices up, I might not go to a single match next season.

I'm fucking sick of Arsenal taking the piss out of my loyalty, and the loyalty of the 100,000 fans who go regularly. We don't deserve to be served up such shit week in, week out, and we definitely don't deserve to be raped in the pocket for the privilidge.
