Brian I couldn't agree with you more! So many fans really do not know how lucky they are to have an entertaining team who are usually there or thereabouts and give us so much hope for the future. We all want silverware of course but for me there are really only two trophies up for grabs. I say this speaking as someone who watched Arsenal - courtesy of Ian Ure and flu - stuffed by Swindon and Don Rogers in 1969, when the League Cup wasn't worthless. Luckily I didn't lose the faith then either...
Rant on, rant on
Count me in, too. Great article.
I couldn't agree more about the current nostalgia for George Graham, which is just laughable. The last 3 years under GG saw the worst football ever played in my 40 years of watching Arsenal - the team consisted of the back 5 plus Ian Wright with a random assortment of others making up the numbers.
There are genuine questions for the boss to answer (not least, in my mind, about defensive coaching) but, as you say, let's have some perspective please.
The Arsenal are solvent, as opposed to our 2 main rivals, and a model for a properly run football club. As a bonus, we (usually) play the best football to watch in England (and most of Europe).
Well done, again, for a great article.
Angelo
p.s. I still think we had a great shout if Robin had stayed fit.

That's where the problem is for me. Would it have made this great club insolvent if Arsene had brought in someone to cover for him even if it was only a loan deal? I mean, we knew RVP was going to be out for the season a long time ago. Why pin your hopes in all competitiions (at the time) on an average at best striker who was also out injured? Granted we got a good return from the makeshift strikers who stood in but that was against the weaker teams in the league.
You also speak about genuine questions that need to be answered, if those questions were answered before this we would be in a better position than we are now.
OK so when do we start commenting on things? When things are as bad as they once were?
The reality is that the situation has changed. We are now a club that expects the top 4 as a bare minimum every season, and given our wage bill rightly so. Really, given where we were in our recent history we should be looking for more than that. So when we fail to rectify these things either through transfers or coaching it leads to criticism. Just because things are better than they have been in the past does not mean that things are beyond criticism now or even that people can't think the manager needs to deliver more if it is possible.
