Play off for 4th

Post by Nos89 »

This could become reality. Given our last four seasons this could have a damning effect on our attendance in the Champions League. I know they do it in the Dutch League but I don't understand why introduce it to the Prem. It will make the FA Cup even less prestigious than it is becoming now. Can you imagine if we got to the FA Cup final and we had a Champions League play off the following week, if AW is still at the helm, he'll throw the Cup Final.

It is making 4th place more important than winning the League. Why not have a play off between 2nd and 3rd for the automatic qualification place in Champions League?

We obiously wont like it as it affects us the most but it will go through as 16 of the 20 teams will want this to happen.

However the 4 others are the 4 most powerful. If rules come in to try and hinder those teams then they could start looking into a European Super League with the other big clubs.

Although, the playoff is just an unlikely at the moment than the Super league.

Seriously though this is yet another fcuked up brainwave by the gobshites running football nowadays  A proper and more beneficial proposal would be to reduce the amount of teams in the division to 18 or maybe 16 but again cash will rule the day so that will never happen
Anyway this proposal wont really affect us cos the rose tinters have told me that we are going to win the league........every season while wenger is with us

If the other teams were good enough to make the CL they'd finish top 4 anyway. You finish in the top 4 because over the course of a season you've been better than the other 16 teams, rather an a one off game.

Good point by No89 about the cup final being thrown too, you know that'd happen if the CL playoff was the week after.

Daft idea and I don't say that from an Arsenal perspective.

Why not have a 'play-off' for first place whilst you're about it ?

I know the Premier League will never allow it but the fa cup should get the 4th Champions League spot, would bring some of the magic back of the cup and would mean teams playing their strongest teams as they are only 6 or so games away from being in Europes best competition.

Can you imagine pompy ion the champions league, milwall got to thefinal of the fa cup without playing a premiership team.

You cant reward such a big prize to a competition that involves so much luck, teams get 38 games to prove their worth. We would never have 4 places if it wasnt for the big four so they should be grateful.

I tell you what, let's scrap the league all together and just have our football decided on Satruday nights through a series of crap tv shows where we can vote via mobile phones and the internet for the real ''peoples' champion'' and the ''peoples' 4th place team''. That seems a lot better than a system that has worked perfectly well for nearly 150 years.

Playoffs work very well in the football league, from the Championship downwards, and offers an exciting conclusion to the league season.

I'm not surprised it's being discussed, and I'm fairly sure most clubs outside the top 4 would welcome the idea.

Such a stupid proposal! But if it goes ahead!

I want to see a play off between the top 3 teams for the league!

Also, teams finishing 16-18 to have another play-off for which of them gets relegated!

Daft? Is that what I hear?? Yes, coz this CL play off thing has to be the dumbest proposal this year!

The champions should go into the CL, nobody else.

BUT

allowing a team who finished 7th to enter, having maybe finished 32 points behind the champions (like last year) is ridiculous. It ruins the credibility of a league
