something has to give !
currently we are blessed with a abundance of central midfield talent .
Fabregas
Gilberto
Flanimal
Denilson
Diarra
Diaby
every single one of the 6 players above is good enough to be a certain starter in probably 85% of the teams in the premiership , italian and spanish leauges .
with Fabregas occupying 1 out of 2 central midfield positions , it essentially means we have 5 brilliant players fighting for 1 first team spot . with the likes of merida , barrazite and other talented youngsters in the youth setup the competion could increase in the future .
already Diarra and Diaby have spoken out that they will have to reconsider their future at Arsenal if their status remains the same . Gilberto is also obviously dissapointed with his limited role and Flanimal almost left last season because he was not getting enough first team oppurtunities .
to be honest i cant hold it against these lads if they want to leave because players of their talent should not be third , fourth etc down the pecking order .
what i want to ask you guys is who do you think we should try to keep , and/ or who do you think will probably leave ?

Given his age you would have to say Gilberto's days are numbered. But with the number of games Tommy R misses 1 can move to wide so hope we can keep the rest happy.WengerKnows wrote:currently we are blessed with a abundance of central midfield talent .

Hand on heart I think we all feel that despite recent form flamini is the most expendable. I would be very sorry to see Diaby go but you have to question whether le boss trusts him in his proper position in centre midfield. Diarra will be a star if he shows some patience and if wenger doesnt start fucking him about at right back - given that we have 3 right backs in the 1st team squad(sagna, eboue & hoyte) why do we need to play diarra there in carling cup ? We all know bert will go, if not in jan then def in summer and as he has been a good servant to us we cannot but wish him well. I do think that, given the criticism George Graham got for hoarding centre backs, le boss has got away light considering he has done the same with centre midfielders
GG got criticism because he wouldn't invest in decent central midfielders, at a time when he was lining his own pockets, selling on our most talented midielders and playing centre backs in central midfield.augie wrote:Hand on heart I think we all feel that despite recent form flamini is the most expendable. I think thats the problem with Diaby..augie wrote:Hand on heart I think we all feel that despite recent form flamini is the most expendable. He's been here about 2 years yet and I've seen plenty of him but Im still not sure if he's a defensive midfielder, an attacking midfielder or what..You have to nail down a position in a team like this and he seems in limbo a bit..
Defensive Midfielders (Central)
Gilberto
Diarra
Matt Flamini
Attacking/Creative Midfielders
Diaby (??)
Cesc
Denilson
I can see us trimming those 2 categories by one player each, which is my explanation for my initial fear for Diaby and Gilberto..

Hey you forgot Alex Song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think you're probably right, someone may have to go (even if only on loan). I see Diaby has opened his mouth today about considering his options as he is not playing. Perhaps he should consider why he's not in the side. In his last 2 games, against Sheffield Utd and Slavia, he has been bloody awful, and failed to pass to a team-mate in either match. Buck your ideas up and get on with playing for Arsenal.
