INTERNATIONALS

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

INTERNATIONALS

Post by RaM »

So, thoughts??

Bendtner scored for Denmark I noticed, but haven't had a chance to read many reports of any games yet. Noticed Ireland lost the three points in the last minute again too...

Eduardo didn't score!! Let's hope he doesn't get a hatrick on Wednesday.
I agree that the premiership is more interesting ,though.

Could you imagine if he did score a hatrick against England on Wednesday it would be interesting. :D

It's an old cliche, but I find it difficult to believe how most journalists and pundits approached the Israel v Russia game, saying that it was a 100% banker for Russia. It's not like Israel are at the level of Liechtenstein or the Faroe Islands, they have been in the chase for qualification for most of the time, they have a great home record and Russia don't play away very well. It was always likely to be a closely fought match.

Israel even still have an obscure chance of qualifying - it can more or less be discounted, since it requires Russia to lose to Andorra, England to lose to Croatia and a massive goal difference disparity to be made up, but the point is Israel shouldn't have been written off.

I know journos work to their own ridiculous agenda, but to hear an ex-player like Nobby Stiles (amongst others) say he thought Russia were a certainty to win makes me think these people really do know less about the game than most fans.

And now they're behaving like England have qualified. But England still have to play a very good Croatia side, who will be relaxed and may want to take the chance to knock out a potential rival. England probably will get the draw they need but they still have a lot to do, and with some very serious injuries and a crap manager.

It's just that they still think we are living in an era of empire and we gave the game to the world, so regardless of how countries have developed, they still believe you can beat Turkey 8-0 and one should watch out for that tricky Puskas and the almighty Hungarians!

And Israel cannot qualify - they can only draw level with England then it goes on head-to-head results.
