As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
Sorry I cannot go with the piss taking on this one!
I am a proud Englishmen and I find waht I just witnessed a disgrace!
Sure there are lots of you guys on here who are not English so of course you are allowed to take the piss but I find it absurd that other Englishmen laugh off our failure so easy!
Never understood this club or country choice for supporters! There is no choice as such as clubs do not play when countries do and if an Arsenal player gets injured on international duty ok it aint great but you still watch Arsenal the next weekend!
I love my Arsenal but I love my national team too! Cut the piss taking and as for the " I am gutted now that Terry, Ferdinand, Lampard, Rooney etc etc will get the summer off so they wont be tired" it is pretty poor if we have to cling onto things like that to help our success!
Sorry rant over but it is a sincere heartfelt rant!

Gus mate, I agree with 99% of the stuff you say, but I really disagree with what you've just said. If you love the national team, then fair play to you. You can support whoever you like. However, I for one feel no affiliation with the national team and therefore, can't be too gutted about the result. Yes, I'm an Englishman, but I don't relate with the national team. The fans are (by and large) a bunch of *word censored* who I rather be caught dead than associate myself with, I don't like the role the media plays in the side, there are no Arsenal players in the side and as for the players who are in the side, I have a soft spot for next to none of them. I look at the English national team and I don't see anything that I can relate to and I don't see anything to be proud of. Obviously I'd rather us win than lose, but when we lose in such a manner, if I want to have a good laugh about it, then I will and won't worry about being unpatriotic while doing it. I laugh at it because it was laughable.
It's not just England though, it's international football as a whole. I detest the whole idea of it. I love club football, I love Arsenal, I'm an Englishman, I love my country but I don't love my national team and I don't mind saying it.
Fine if you feel like that Galasso but I am sorry I cannot abide it!
I could easy be a sheep here and join in with the crowd but sorry the club vs country thing does not hold water for a supporter
Yeah chose where to spend your money if you have to make a choice on an Arsenal game or an England game but why we ridicule our own nations failure I will never understand!
i laffed at it in a fukkin disgraceful manner, im also a proud enlish man, but i am being honest we were shit tonight, and the scotts deserve to be there even tho i can assure you they were cheering for the croations tonight, neway me an tonysaunders will have fun as thats all enfields full of!!!!
tonight we were a disgrace, and them fans who went should get a percentage of there money back...wont happen ovuously....but anyway all mclowns fault, played owen in a pointless friendly and got injured, didnt start beckham who in my opinion is still a great player for his *word censored*ry., played a keeper whos never played a BIG game for his country, and lumpoflard and gerrard, the 1 partnership that every1 in the world knows dont work by now.....and well to be honest should of played cashley who if he was fit enuff to be on the bench why couldnt he start......
I know that we equalised too early, I said so at the time.
I'm actually in some ways glad we failed because - hopefully - it might bring a bit of analysis as to why we can't cut it.
And we're gonna get rid of someone who is proven to be a shit manager.
If we qualified we might have eeked our way to the quarters and everyone would have thought it all rosy - as they were prepared to do after the wins in September/October.
As for not liking international football - I would think it would be a good recruiting ground for how we get good foreigners in England. Even if it's just watching the French u-16 squad.
Fine Tony but I also cannot understand the there is no Englishmen in the Arsenal side arguement! There are blatantly English players who are good enough to grace our shirt, but whose fault is it they are not at The Grove? On the flip of we do not care what nationality the guys are who play for Arsenal I also do not care what club the national players turn out for!
Yes the supporters are a bunch of dicks and not something to be proud of but what has that got to do with losing 3-2 at home to Croatia? Nothing at all! I am talking about the results our team gets in order to qualify for major competitions not how many bars we smash up along the way!
You are spot on that there is nothing to be proud off Tony, you are very correct! However that does not mean it should be a piss take!
Sorry I just cannot understand how people can laugh it off so easy! We all enjoy the World Cups and Euro's but it is a damn sight better if you have your team there to cheer! I will not be cheering Croatia cos Eduardo plays for them the same as I will not cheer Spain cos Cesc plays for them!
I am Arsenal 150% but I am also English 150% too and I find it very strange that people do not take pride in their national football in the same way they do their club!

I am so happy That was a brilliant match, Croatia are superb I was watching that match under such suspense because I obviously wanted Croatia to win as it would mean Russia would go through. I was jumping like crazy when Croatia got their first and second goal but when they scored their third to make it 3-2; I just said “YEAHâ€
I didn't say that the only reason I didn't relate to the national team was because there were no Arsenal players in there, but that is part of the reason (albeit, not a huge part). It doesn't matter which club a player comes from and as I said, I'd rather us win than lose, but there are many reasons as to why I just cannot feel too gutted about the result.
Again, the fans may not have anything to do with the result, but the result has got nothing to do with what I think about England? If we'd won, I would have commented on our good goals but from tomorrow onwards, I would have been talking about Arsenal because, aside from the heat of the moment, I really am not that bothered about the national side, and even in the heat of the moment, give me Arsenal 10 times out of 10.
Admittedly, Euro '08 would have been a lot more enjoyable had England been there, but they're not there, and it doesn't bother me. England not there - so? England there - nice one. I have a total ambivalence to International football as a whole and in fact, I'd go as far to say that I hate international breaks.
As a footballing nation, we are overrated, we are arrogant, we aren't humble at all and we don't play decent football. If that were different, then who knows? Maybe I would feel more inclined to give a fuck. But even if all 11 players were Arsenal players, they changed their colours to red and white and sung 'The Wonder of You' as an anthem, I'd still take Arsenal 10 times out of 10.
However, I can understand why you are gutted for the team, and I respect that you're a genuine England football fan. You're entitled to your opinion, but so am I. And I really couldn't care less, so if I want to have a good old laugh at something that is laughable, then I will and won't feel an ounce of guilt.
I don't care about the English National side enough to make any dent on me. It's nothing to do with Arsenal players playing for them or not. I will never feel for them as I do for Arsenal. I left my comments until the end of the game as I feel that's my right, at least at the end of the game.
They do not represent Englishness for me.
I will continue to take the piss if I feel like it in much the same way as Arsenal players are on the receiving end on this site.
