The goalkeeping situation is in an awful state, and a fucking disgrace to which I hold Wenger responsible.seamoisalegend wrote:Yes because Arsenal are in such an awful state.![]()

while there is a lot of overaction and nonesense written on this forum, this comment is not one of them!!
the goalkeeping situation is a shambles - almunia, flappy, manonne are all so far below top level its scary!!
to win a title you need a keeper who will win you 9 points a season, not an idiot who has cost us more than that already!!
and as for flappy and the rest.........................

Wenger the man who has put us in this predicament will then start playing either flappy(who is worse than al) or vito, who is somewhat unpredictible.
And as a result, both the clge and prem dream will be just that "a dream" by the time we leave shite lane on wed 14th april.
Then meltdown!
He has taken it upon himself to have full responsibility for everything regarding the playing staff available, so he must take all blame.

Wasn't there a thread recently where a poster had met Given who said 'hell yes i would have joined arsenal but they didnt want me'. I'm not saying its gospal but we could have offered him Champion's League football when City. I think we could have got him and relatively cheaper. I just think Wenger didnt want to kill Almunia at the time.
Wenger hasnt shown sentimentality with a great many better players - Jens for one, Pires another - and yet clings onto Almunia. Isn't there a stat that says he's 19/20 in the rankings of PL goalkeepers (shot to save ratio). You'd think a man who creams over statistics would be swayed by that

I was a semi-pro keeper for many years and made many mistakes like the one Almunia made on Saturday - that's why I was semi-pro rather than pro. You expect it it in the lower leagues but the No.1 keeper at the top 10 clubs in the world should never make those sort of errors.
As a keeper your mistakes will be punished, especially at the top level - sadly Manuel rarely goes 90 minutes without making a costly mistake, either through loss of concentration, bad judgment or just lack of ability.
The best keepers are the unspectacular ones that make the least mistakes (Jennings / Seaman / Schmeichel / Dino Zoff) not the "Hollywood" ones that make 2 great saves followed by one howler (David James / Barthez / Dida / Almunia).

Partly agreed. Mannone is a ok keeper. He just lacks of experience though. I think it's unfair to say that he is a rubbish keeper yet!!Only One Tony Adams wrote:euphoricone wrote:+1goonersid wrote:Seamus, in case you hadn't noticed, Wenger is the manager of Arsenal Football Club.
