There’s not one England player I’d have at Arsenal (21/11)

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Usual thread starter… Hmm. Not one of England’s internationals at the Grove eh? Do you agree? John Terry? Steven Gerrard? Any others you’d consider? Thing is, a lot of them wouldn’t really fit in, so it’s not just an issue of playing ability. Ashley Cole felt alienated once the numbers of English players gradually depleted. Which makes the notion of him ever wanting to move to Real Madrid (as his wife has claimed) a bit of a strange one.

England Players for Arsenal

Post by Rainham Red »

I can`t agree that there are no England players who we would want in our team.I would take Richards as a central defender rather than a full back as I feel we are lacking in that department. There is a lot of talk that he may be on his way to us in January so fingers crossed.
I would also take Gerrard who would be excellent cover for the great Flamini.I can`t believe how he has come on from an ok player who could come on as sub and do a job to a player who is keeping Gilberto, who is a regular for Brazil as well as captain on the bench.Amazing!

I'd take Richards because he is a self-confessed Gooner; I think he'd fit into our style: he is very strong, fast, good tackler and a header of a ball and the main thing is he enjoys to attack.

We could have bought Rooney after Euro 2004 but he was too expensive, I think he could have been a very good player for us.

Cashley Cole was brilliant for us and I'd welcome him back because we need cover for Traore in Carling Cup, although Gibbs did alright there against Sheffield United.

I would take Terry, Lumpard, Carson.

That doens't mean I will stop abusing them (first 2) though

England Players for Arsenal

Before yesterdays game I wrote that I would not mind Richards or Gerrard, today I would not have any of them just a bunch of overpaid under talented rubbish.
Didn`t Mclaren look a twerp standing on the touchline with an unbrella. It just about summed up England.

thay aint worth watching, there are beter players in england, wahy have all this names in england team instead havong hungry glory players, as about Lampard i never liked him he dont have any world clas abilities of playing football, even when hi scores they are some chicky goals, terry is to high, and ferdinand as well, as for beckham he is too old, and the rest ar good fo benchwarmers, exept micah richards. And the worst thing was goal keeper, dude he absolutely sucks.

Ouch at the hatred. Would I take any of them? No, not unless as squad players but doesn't mean they are bad, they each have their role. Gerrard is someone you worry about as he is a headless chicken but his passion and ability to sometimes drag a team through is useful, Lampard can keep the ball quite well though his final third contribution isn't always good, Beckham still has a great cross, Crouch is a good target man, Owen is still a great scorer when fit, England have an excellent defence when everyone is fit with some good cover for that area. The likes of Barry, Heskey, Bridge are normally ones you can rely on to tide you over for a game or two.

I just wonder how good the likes of Joe Cole would have been if his flair was encouraged and he learnt how to use it properly.

Not sure I agree with the whole article but very amusingly written and in principle on the ball. Absolutely right about Lampard flukes. After about 30 mins last week I was surprised to realise Fat Frank was actually on the field/swamp. And would David Dein have had us play there?
