Has had a good season, 7.5/10, grown into the role quietly and sometimes been overlooked for what he has done.
Last night was poor, struggled to get his foot in or to help the defence in any shape or form. Possession was, hesitant again but he was dreadful when he chased for an equaliser/winner, not sure if he ran out of steam but it was horrible to see

I think we have a problem with some of our players.
Diaby, Walcott and Denilson are all much the same in the problem they can not seem to play well when starting a game, they all seem to drift out of the game unable to up their tempo during the match.
All three were great examples last night.
Diaby unable to trap a sloth all night but when he comes on from the subs bench he brings a more attacking attitude
Walcott when he starts he is easily kept out of the game and looks lost but bring him on and again he brings a more attacking attitude, he seems more willing to run at defenders.
Denilson when he starts he seems to stay at one pace through the game but when he comes on he seems to have more desire to chase down and harry players

Which would be great if he was playing against championship quality sides but playing for The Arsenal includes playing against the best sides in europe and I am inclined to agree with donaldo that against better players he will always be found out.
By the way if some of you choose to defend him then so be it but please dont use fatigue as an excuse cos he has played fcuk all this season compared to many of his team-mates and at his age he should be well past the point of using his age as an excuse for inconsistancy

In all honesty last night we watched some sublime football from the European Champions. The possession they had realy cannot be put down to other than them being hungrier, faster and much more comfortable with the ball. They were hell bent on getting that away goal, and its no coincedence that they took their foot off the gas when they did get it.
Diaby, for me the sheer fact he had Messi, Xavi and Busquets running all around him, he was awfully exposed as being a bit of a cumbersome player, for me he really was shown for the player he really is. We can also argue that for 70 minutes Fabregas was exactly the same, but we have rose tinted glasses when it comes to the captain sometimes.
Denilson i think personally came of age last night, he was superb after the first half, i thought the time he had on the ball was used well, he didnt get much but he used it well when he did.
Simple fact 69% possession from Barcelona does not give the likes of Diaby the right to play the "Brum" type of game. How many times a season do we get over run like we did last night?
Diaby has become the typical combatative midfielder the Premier League has many of, Barcelona.....well we wont be playing them every week, but the football they played was akin to the stuff we played in 2004.....the bar has risen, we need to reach it.

I couldn't put it any better than this -
From Football365’s player ratings for the game last night:
Abou Diaby
A disgrace to the shirt and an embarrassment to his profession. Diaby's abysmal performance contained not a single redeeming feature - even on one leg, Fabregas covered the same number of yards as the Frenchman - and his near-total positional and possessional inadequacy paved the way for Barcelona's first-half assault. Diaby was no better after the interval either but at least by that stage Denilson had been introduced to stem the tide by doing the work that his team-mate scandalously neglected.

seriously harsh - disgrace, embarrassment!?
he got taken to the cleaners by one of the best couple of midfielders in the world
he actually covered a lot of ground (more than any arsenal player)
but was always just behind chasing Xavi's shadow
Diaby is a top quality player and this was his first poor game in ages
on his day Xavi can make anyone look stupid
(and Guardiola said the first 30 mins were the best Barca have played under him)
Diaby would have been subbed if we hadn't suffered so many injuries
he was unlucky that the mockery was drawn out for 90 whole minutes
but disgrace and embarrassment is ridiculously over the top
he did his best
it wasn't good enough

the problem was the game was to quick for diaby.
arsenal have never been on the end of such quick fire passing around them for a suatained period in years (united did it in spells in the semi, not constant though).
Diaby is a bit thick and couldnt comprehend the pace and movement of barca players, simply his brain isnt as quick as the barca players passing and moving.

The Premier League isn't a particularly skillful league, with most teams opting for a tough, combative approach, and that perhaps makes Arsenal's contrasting style of play seem all the more pure, slick and beautiful.
But, I think last night brought us down to earth with a bump. On our own patch, we were taught a footballing lesson - the speed they passed the ball around, and the angles they created eclipsed anything Arsenal had to offer; in fact, anything we've EVER had to offer! They were infinitely more comfortable in possession than I have EVER seen on English soil.
It was particularly galling to see that despite their obvious talents, Barca even taught us a lesson of how to play WITHOUT the ball. The hunger, desire and tactical discipline in closing down and hunting in packs put our efforts to shame.
I felt sorry for Diaby last night, as he was well and truly exposed. The game was too quick for him. Hell, it was too quick for pretty much every Arsenal player. But they can be forgiven, as it's just something you don't encounter in England... not even on the Arsenal training pitch.
I wonder if this was how England felt after being well and truly humbled by Hungary in '53?
Can't believe it finished 2-2
