diarra the new vieira?!

Post by tomkingsbury »

as the title suggests, i'd say the smaller frenchman rather than diaby plays more like old patrick (tho im sure some will argue he's more like makelele) after a fine display in the centre of midfield - flamini watch ur back. Granted he made a few mistakes and let a few passes go astray but he immediately made an effort to regain possession or make it difficult for wigan to distribute the ball. His strength for someone so small is astounding and his stamina seemed infinite. He was a signing that made me go 'ay?' due to our endless list of central midfielders but he certainly appears a cut above the rest at this early stage considering he competently fills in at right back. Definitely my man of the match.

A couple of driving runs from midfield and tenacious tackling. Was difficult to come in among so many changes but he did well.

Denilson was playing so many square balls I was starting to think that he was the new Ray Wilkins :D

really glad someone posted a thread on this. for me, diarra is awesome. ive lorded diaby in the past, but this guy is the real mccoy! he may be smaller than paddy, but he's got the same instincts (which flim flam just does not possess). Diarra and Fabreags...awesome!

Maybe, but he's got a long, long way to go yet. I didn't think he was that good today. He showed some good touches, but I thought he was quite wasteful and tended to over elaborate a lot. He definitely looks like a quality player, but let's give the lad a chance before putting too much pressure on him! He will never be the new Vieira. He will be Diarra.

Very impressed with Diarra,as for being the new Vieira a bit early to compare. But it shows how highly Wenger rates him that he is willing to let Gilberto go.

As a player Diarra is nothing like PV4 in that he is a different style of player. He does look quality so far but he doesnt have the same physical presence that Paddy provided in midfield and this "ingrediant" is something I still believe the team lacks. If anything I fely diaby would be the new PV4 cos of his size, strength, great skill for such a big man and cos he too likes a tackle but it appears that le Boss doesnt trust him in that midfield spot. Shame really

Diarras work rate on Saturday was excellent. He tackled back and linked very well with Clichy. I think he is probably the future partner for Fabulous in the middle. A great bit of business by Le Boss and a serious blow to Chelski.

He is a great signing but he is no as hard and as much of a tackler as Vieira. Also can anyone see him getting his game every week?

I think he has jumped ahead of Gilberto and will start if the Flamster is injured or God forbid loses form.

True. But can we be sure he is ahead of Gilberto in the pecking order?

true, i did get a bit carried away with the whole diarra/vieira comparision but i was very impressed with his character, workrate and tackling, altho it was agaisnt wigan: we'll c if he can keep it up in more difficult games. Tho he probably isnt the new vieira, what i meant was he could finally be the long term replacement for that role.

yeh im not too sure, i've always rated gilberto altho i think he's goin to find it hard to get back into the team now. He was solid last season and being made captain actually improved his all round game. Id hate to think we'd lose him january, but then again its good to see flamini et al. playing well
