a question

Post by greengooner »

how is it that inferior teams ie your boltons stokes and blackburns of this world when faced with talented opposition ie arsenal/chelsea/manusa will generally foul like fuck for 90 mins to stop them playing.
We always seem to suffer from this which leads to the question.......why will we not do this in the Nou Camp?
Is it beneath us or are just not capable of playing like a horible shower of *word censored* for 90 mins, we will try to play football and probably get raped.
Who knows what would happen if we adopted the "small club" attitude and got stuck in to Barca for periods and knocked them off their game, after all..........They dont like it up em either

So true mate. No one goes out to "out-football" this Barcelona side unless you're a mad man named Arsene Wenger.

If we're to come away with any sort of result, we'll have to defend deep, block all the passing lanes, press them to fuck, counter-attack with speed. That's how Chelsea achieved the 0-0 draw at the Nou Camp last season.

Sadly, I don't think we're capable of implementing such tactics. Who's gonna act as our midfield hardman kicking lumps out of their players, fucking Denilson? :banghead:

Does that mean we should also start singing "Ing-er-lund, Ing-er-lund" in the Nou Camp and "we support our local team"

I don't want to be like Hull or Stoke thanks very much......if we get beat then so be it.

so its plan A again and if that doesn't work we'll try plan A again until it does work.
We are so one dimensional it hurts and the result of it is that we are so easy to play against because the opposition know we wont change it and get physical.
Barca worked their balls of when they lost possesion, hunted in packs and never gave us a moments peace, i'm not saying play like Stoke but we have to up the physical effort

Winning the FA Cup in 2005 was an anticlimax because of the performance...let's go to Barca and win playing football! We need to get back to the way we started the season pressing all over the pitch....Barca did that to us.....I'm with you '89 but not sure about defending too deep....We tend to concede goals cheaply when Wenger invites the opponents to attack us. a good strong line between our box and half way....might see Sol Campbell included with Song in front of him.

However, we'll need to watch those bookings......

I don't disagree with you about us being one dimensional and for that the Goon In Charge takes full responsibility. However, because of this, if we even tried to adopt a plan B, we would beaten out of sight.

Anyway, thankfully in Europe, we do not come up against refs like the incompetent Mike Dean, who take great personal amusement in seeing players launching themselves in with two feet at the expense of our players. We had 5 booked against Barca in a game virtually without tackles last week.

We would end up with 9 men or less adopting the Bolton approach

Not if we used the famous Bolton tactic of rotational fouling, three hard tackles by three different players might not even lead to a single yellow but it probably would worry the recipient of the tackles.

The reason we don't play like that is pretty obvious if you saw the refs perfomance on Wednesday, you'd realise they will not allow teams to play like that you would end up giving away lots of fouls and finishing the game with 9 men everytime.

If that's our game plan, then we're sunk.

Without Pique and possibly Toure out, Bendtner is the tallest player on the pitch, don't see why we don't just stop bowling the ball out and play it long.
It cuts out their midfield and a good knockdown can be explioted with Nasri/Walcott/Eddie running into the space behind the fullbacks.

The few times we had the ball of them on Wednesday there was so much space behind Alves and Maxwell that we didn't use because we tried to pass our way around the best pressers in the game.

Bendtner showed he is good with winning in the ball against Porto, AW should get him doing that. FFS we've got nothing to lose. Everyone thinks we are dead and buried anyway, so getting a result playing long ball would be hilarious after AW's comments earlier this season.

What's catalan for HOOOOOF

Long ball won't work. Bendtner won quite a few headers in the first leg and no one got anywhere near the flick ons. We don't practise that way, it won't work. By all means kick it out to get it up the field and away from our box but don't use it in expectation of scoring from it.

We need to press them in possession with a relatively high line then immediately counter in behind their full backs with pace once we win the ball. We can definitely score twice, it's just how many are they going to get at the other end.
