why are you on this forum? all you ever seem to do is moan and complain about things. you dont bring anything constructive on here. you dont construct your posts intelligently like the majory of the 'realists' do on this forum. whilst others criticise the team with well thought out posts, yours are knee jerk reactions that obviously have no sense in them. all in all your posts are mostly a load of *****, try thinking first before reaching for that keyboard of yours.
Get stuffed you utter twat.

A still-learning defender with a great attitude who is a proper all-round footballer and is only going to get better. One of our best signings for a while (yes I know...).

Yeah, still learning, he's not a kid but still how old is he, 23-24? I don't think centre backs generally reach their peak until their late twenties, and it's not a physical thing, I think they learn to read the game better.

Don’t get the need for the massively OTT criticism of Vermaelen. But that said, all season long in pretty much every game he’s continually gone charging out of position to make challenges he has little chance of winning &/or that he just doesn’t need to make in the 1st place. He dives in way too much & gives away silly free-kicks trying to win the ball from behind when there’s no chance of doing so without giving away the foul.

The thing that pisses me off about it is that it’s such an obviously rectifiable problem. All it would take is a quiet word from the coaching staff to let him know that sometimes it’s ok to jockey, you don’t have to win the ball the split second you clap eyes on it. With the likes of Bould at the club & the access we presumably have to former players like Dixon who are clearly clued up about the art of defending I cant believe he’s been doing this 3 or 4 times at least every game & still seems none the wiser.

Good player (easily one of our best this season), with the potential to be a really top CB but maybe another one who for the time being needs someone alongside him to organise him at times. Or, you know, maybe the odd training session where we actually practice defending.

Again vermaelen is a typical wenger prototype signing - wenger likes his centre halves (kolo, gallas and tv5 for starters) to be mobile players willing to come charging out from defence. This is all fine and dandy as long as this type of player is playing alongside a ruthless bastard who would much rather keep 1 clean sheet than to score a hat trick of goals himself and he would be willing to drive over his own grandmother to ensure that clean sheet - sadly a 1 game a week sol is the nearest we have to that type of player :(

1989, you ought to read MM99's post I've read it thrice and still can't find where he felt the need to turn a sensible point into a pointless insult...maybe I should read it again :? :?

What? He can't continue to learn, because he was captain of Ajax and has 20 international caps? Have you been drinking? The guy is 23-24, how can he possibly not continue to learn? People continue to learn throughout their lives, up until the day they die. Surely you know this?

Did you stop learning at a certain age? Posts like this certainly indicate that you did!

Why have you singled out Vermaelen not Rosicky or Denilson who had worse games?
We all know how fucking shit Silvestre is but no one seems to notice the averageness of Vermaelen. He's made a costly fuck up in every big game this season.

I have slated Denilson enough in the past to bother doing it again.
Plastic mug.

TV has been great all season. How do you think other teams with their 1st choice centre back partnership missing? We were weak in a lot of places Denilson - I thought was worst player on the park. Rosicky played ok. Walcott tried so did Diaby, Eboue, and Bendtner. I also thought Eduardo would have a chance to redeem himself. But to single out Vermalen it seems a bit harsh.

He's done a fantastic job, and thank god we brought him at the expense of fat arse Toure.

The reason why he doesn't look so good in big games is because we have the most naive manager when it comes to defensive protection in these type of games. It's not Vermaelen's fault that his partner is Silvestre, that the full backs are wingers and that our defensive midfield rock is Denilson.

Arsene knows :D

:D So we didnt buy an established centre half then? If you didnt know Vermaelen from Antgel's post you would think we had bought a 16 year old who was still learning his game, thats the point i made. and i did stop learning at an early age i knew everything at the age of 6, its a hard life being a genius :happydance:
