I Don't Get Diaby

Post by Gunner152 »

Seriously, i don't.

this is not a slate him thread it's just an honnest enquiry.

i have been watching Diaby play for Arsenal for a long time now and i can honenstly say i don't get him. is he suppose to me an attacking midfielder, a defensive midfielder, the new PV, a wide player, holding CM, play in the middle??

i honnestly don't know. apart form the tackle he made to set up the goal last night i was convinced he didn;t know what a tackle was. his bal;l retention was piss poor, his ball distribution was horrible, his passing was *****, and his overall performance was poor i felt.

i just would like to know what Wenger sees him as long term as i really think he is struggle to tread water at Arsenal.

Trust me no one does and I fear the same will happen with Jay Emmanuel-Thomas. "Jack of all trades, master of none" syndrome

but surely he needs to be given a position and stick to it, problem i see is he doesnt have enough of any particular atributes that lends him to a particular role in the team.

so frustrating

I wouldnt trust him to sell the programmes before the game - he would spend the whole time twisting in circles, he would lose more than he would sell and for those that he did actually receive money for he would get confused and fcuk up the change

I hope that position is back in france somewhere

Ah! Double post....but I guess that was pretty funny.

Now that I'm here may as well give some kind of sensible input too...

I see potential in Diaby. Maybe his problems are mental? As in...he doesn't have a brain? Some of his decision making seems to be ridiculous, but he no doubt has the ability to produce some moments of brilliance. If he could switch on for 90 minutes every week and learn to play well in a single role he might be ok.

At the moment Diaby can not start a game. He is good at coming on when from the subs bench but he can not start games.

He seems to have one game pace and can not change it during the game. I think Theo is the same, when they start they play well for 10/15 mins but then the defenders/midfield players get to grips and push them into positions they do not want to be in or cut off thier supply and they are then annonimous for the rest of the game.

I have said for ages now that I can not work out where Diaby's best position is he is not attacking enough for an attacking role(fabregas/nasri) and not good enough at tackling/holding for a defencive player(song) and gets lost in games when played out wide.

He will be a good player for somebody but I just cant see it being Arsenal

he's fine in the league playing against birmingham and fulham but whenever he plays against the top teams he is caught out...like the rest of our squad.

I get him - he's the player who split their defence with the one telling pass of the night after robbing their player on the half way line. He's the one who after suffering a year long injury after a Shawcross type foul was then fucked about in wide positions by Wenger to cover for a series of injury prone paperweights.

He is a player who has scored one in four this season despite, as many point out, not being kept to a regular position.

He is with the possible exception of Fabregas the most naturally gifted player in the squad.

If he leaves it will be another set back...

Charlie Nicholas was the most gifted player in our team at one time - he just didn't do it enough!

Great pass for the goal, but wasn't it Diaby who had an easier pass to make to Walcott shortly after?

Too inconsistent within the same game, not just last night but many, many times.

For me, if he leaves, we will not suffer - we just need better players.

I don't disagree with the Charlie Nicholas comparison but in that particular team Charlie was loved because the style of play of the team was fucking awful and he was our one creative spark. He also got us excited because for once we beat the Mancs and Mickeys to his signature - he was a really big name signing at the time, so we gave him a lot of time. Diaby is not given the same treatment because in the past 10 years we've had so many great players and he was not a big name signing. He might be inconsistent but no more so than Arshavin, Bendtner, Denilson, Eboue, Clichy, Sagna and countless others. He has also had an injury every bit as bad as Eduardo and Ramsey but for some reason again, he was not afforded any patience from our supporters

As for the missed pass, it looked to me like Walcott had run into an offside position and that he checked the pass. Whether he was or not I was screaming at the time for him to stay onside.
