usual thread starter… Are you learning to love Gallas now? There was a lot of slating him not that long ago for his outspoken comments, but the guy seems to walk the walk to go with the talk…
That’s why Gallas is the Arsenal captain (26/11)

When Bent chopped down Denilson, I was really pleased to see Billy go steaming in.
This sent out a message to Wigan, that if you try any of that you've got me to deal with.
And to our boys it showed that when it comes to the rough stuff we can't hide and hope that the ref will do something about it. We meet fire with fire.
That's exactly the sort of spirit which we've been missing over the last couple of seasons; no disrespect to Henry, great player and all. But he'd never stick up for his charges like that. (He'd probably scowl at Denilson for not having given him the ball).
It's great to see this side has grown some bollocks...

Gallas was a little too lippy before the season started but I'm guessing a one-on-one with Arsene fixed that. I wasn't too happy to see him become captain because of that but I'm glad to see him prove me wrong.
As for the comments in the article about the game, I thought Diarra had a pretty good game. We just didn't hear his name much since Wigan played for the draw for the most part and hardly ever got an attack going. Considering that we were in attack mode for so long, I thought Denilson could've done better.

I am certainly warming to Gallas as captain and as an Arsenal player full-stop.
I can't agree with the rest of the Ed's piece though. I thought Diarra was our best player on Saturday with Rosicky a close second. As a note Diarra was partnered by Denilson against Newcastle and Song played alongside Senderos at centre-back - Eboue and Walcott played on the wings.

I did not say Gallas was a good choice as captain, and I stand by the reasons - his behaviour in the summer, both before and after Henry's departure, was outrageous and precisely what a senior player in the squad should not have been doing, especially when his first season at Arsenal was such a disappointment. When he wasn't injured, he played badly. I see no reason to forget any of this.
However, even I have to admit that Gallas has been a great success this season, both as captain and as a player. His goal against Wigan was superb, and his drive and commitment (now) can't be questioned. I sit near the players' tunnel, and was impressed at Gallas and Wenger's touchline celebration of Rosicky's goal - it suggested a real partnership between manager and captain.

I also remember Gallas doing the same the same thing with Fabregas in the Man Utd match in the first half. Fabregas kind of chipped in the ball and Gallas made a good header; I think Van der Sar made a good save with his feetAt one stage when a free kick was awarded 20 yards outside the box and he instructed Rosicky to plant it onto his head as he made a run into the box. The Czech player failed to get enough flight on the ball but it was a surefire indication that the captain is very much the leader on the field.

I was quite unhappy about Gallas talking crap last season and I was quite surprised that he was made our new captain. I thought Toure or Gilberto was going to be our captain; but Gilberto has lost his place in the side and Toure doesn't probably have the same aggression and experience as Gallas. Again, the quote "Arsene Knows" has been proven to be true
