Arsenal’s so-called fans (30/3)
usual thread starter... and no, i have no idea why the writer had to return home

When exactly was the North Bank ever as noisy and atmospheric as the Kop in full voice?? In days of yore and terrace, I followed Arsenal to Anfield, Celtic Park, Roker Park, St James Park etc. And I think one thing is certain. All have less atmosphere now than 25 years ago. And all had a better atmosphere than us then as they still do now. I'm all for improving things at the Emirates but Highbury's tag as the Library wasn't completeing undeserved....
While i agree with you that it is disappointing that fans leave early, and i am a season ticket holder of 10 years, and have never once left a game early - i would like to raise a couple of points -
1 - With the increase capacity, I am told by almost all of my Arsenal going friends who are red or silver members that it is not that difficult to get tickets for matches - so i have to question how much of a fan you are if you cannot get tickets for games.
If you are a new Red member, then you clearly have come to support the club in the last 5 years, in which case you could well be a glory boy.
2 - If you do spend money on attending a game - which is no longer cheap - you reserve the right to arrive or leave the stadium when you so choose.
Dont get me wrong - i think you should stay until the end and support the team, but we live in a democratic society, and if you choose to leave early, so be it.

Those in the upper tiers pay approx £1 per minute of football. Turn up 5 minutes late, leave early 4 a halftime pint and leg it with 10 mins to go to catch the early train....and they've wasted £20! They've also missed what is often the most exciting part of the match!! I'm all for democracy but the simple economics of it would suggest that, particularly taking travel costs into account as well, they'd be better off only going to 2/3rds of the matches, but staying until the end....!!
