Simple fact of the matter is that the allies won the war in Europe because Hitler's hatred for Russia resulted in him making the fatal mistake of invading Russia and opening up the Eastern front of the war . Almost 2/3 of axis troops (excluding Japanese )were deployed on the Eastern front battling the Soviets and almost 2/3 of all Axis casualties ( excluding Japanese ) were by the hands of Soviets .
If those troops , weaponry and resources had not been diverted to the Eastern front the Allies wouldn't have had a chance in hell . Naturally all our history books , movies and tv shows gloss over this fact because the Commies were the enemy
The Yanks like to think they won the war but the truth is that the war was won by the tens of millions of poor and ill equiped russians who lost their lives in what was the bloodiest war this world has ever known .

Absolutely SPOT ON!!!WengerKnows wrote: The Yanks like to think they won the war but the truth is that the war was won by the tens of millions of poor and ill equiped russians who lost their lives in what was the bloodiest war this world has ever known .
Stalingrad was the REAL turning point of history, the Russians sacrificed millions to stop the Nazis and for me you can no further than looking at this campaign. The USA are very good at mopping up.....i wont diss them for their sacrifices....but entering war zones that have had three years of murderous acts is different to defending a pil eof rubble against a killing machine.
Yes the Americans fought against a very powerful enemy....but in all seriousness....for me the Russian conflict is key....wonder if Hollywood will go beyond Enemy at the Gates?

I remember when band of Brothers (BoB)came out and was on TV (BBC2?) was quite late so I missed a few episodes.
It was last Christmas that I asked for the Box set and watched the all in awe.
I'm sure like BoB they'll be a few directors not the same all the why through. Which although telling the whole campaign the individual episodes may hold a different feel.
Was excited to hear and see the trailers for Pacific.
Then totally forgot and missed when it started. All I can say is I'm glad we're in technical age where you can download missed shows. Enjoying it So far & up to E2. (Australia's Next

BLUE ON BLUE!!
My dad was in the Royal Navy during the war and hated the Yanks.
He used to tell me a story about two servicemen on a train, one a Yank the other British.
The Yank was reading a newspaper on the latest events at the front, looked up and remarked "some fight" To which the other replied " yeah and some bleedin don't"
