Craig Gordon

Post by safcftm »

Anyone in this neck of the woods heard any rumours about Gordon? Sky Sports News were saying earlier in the day that he has been "linked with a top four team", although they didnt give any names. Wont be Chelsea or Man City if they mean the current top four, and wont be liverpool if they mean the "traditional" top four, so i would assume they mean either man united (van der sar cant last forever) or the arsenal (almunia and fabianski are a bit shite)

Bruce saying he isnt for sale unless we get a huge offer, which i know some on here will take to mean he wont be going to the arsenal, but i heard about it on the sunderland forum and thought id see if anyone had heard rumours over here

(the thread on the sunderland site is here: http://www.readytogo.net/smb/showthread.php?t=488476 but tbh it doesnt have much other than speculation and page after page of arguments- gordon is a class keeper but ever since he cost 9m there has been a lot of debate about him, which surfaces every time his name is mentioned)

We were heavily linked with him before he left hearts to join ye but at that time it was thought that wenger wouldnt spend 9m on a keeper so doubtful he would spend that or more now :( Tbh, and I know I am talking from limited viewing of the guy and you would certainly be more qualified to judge, but he hasnt really done enough to convince me he is worth the money

Augie- I think he has only recently started to show his worth. Previously he has looked shaky in some games but this has mainly been down to the players in front of him, the back 4 have been changing almost constantly since we signed him and until this season he was playing with shite like danny collins and nyron nosworthy. Now we have a pretty set back 4 of hutton-mensah-turner-ferdinand, all of whom are doing well and as a result gordons performances have been class. I think any keeper struggles when he doesnt have confidence in the defenders in front of him. Currently he is making great save after great save and winning us points

I would be surprised if he leaves because i think we would ask about 15m for him. Im not saying he is worth 15m, but we dont really need to sell and so would obviously price him so high that it would take a crazy offer to get him. His actual worth is, due to his young age, probably around 10m or so.

Im fairly sure he will at some point be about the best keeper in the league- he already doesnt have any glaring weaknesses and can only improve with time

Quick youtube compilation (not that its easy to judge by these like but still, a few canny saves in here) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iTLFN07PuV0&feature=fvw

Decent keeper, but it wouldn't surprise me if it were ManUre.
Bruce is a fergie son so maybe they could cut a deal. But i'd reckon they'd be in for someone like Lloris or Akinfeev.

If ManUre do buy another keeper what's peoples thoughts on a cheeky bid for Ben Foster?

Gordon is top class. Would love him here.

if i was you id steer well clear of ben foster, looks awful whenever ive seen him and is worse imo than almunia. Better off getting joe hart if man city would be prepared to sell (they might not like with given getting on a bit, but im sure he would want first team football)

excellent keeper. a hundred miles in front of almunia and he is only 27 so has at least a good 6-8 good years in front of him, enough time for szczesny to become our first choice.

i'd be glad if we signed him.

I would be happy with this guy. Is coming back to some of the form that got him a move in the first place.

Yes, that maybe true, but Bruce definitely get's on well with Wenger also, because of loan deals/transfers that happened when Bruce was at Brum.

Definitely wouldn't want Foster. Gordon is a good goalkeeper and I wouldn't mind him coming here as our no 1. Would cost us a bit tho

I've only recently become a fan of Gordon as he was very poor when he 1st joined them. He's impressed me every time I've seen him this season and he's certainly better than any of the rubbish we have at our place. Wenger won't sign him though, he'll be looking at some idiot playing 3rd division football in South America whilst no hoping to get lucky that he's found the next big thing. :banghead:

indeed, iirc a couple of his wigan signings were made after wenger recommended them. Gordon is a realistic target imo (but i hope you dont bother!)

his clean sheet against france in paris was pretty impressive, but i'd take kirkland to get rid of almunia...
