Balotelli

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

You clearly haven't seen him play enough to compare him to Cole. If Carlton had Balotelli's ability he wouldn't be playing for West Ham.

I wouldn't say he's as good as Ronaldo but the boy has some tricks in he's locker!

Fat Boy or Lady Boy Ronaldo?

Far from it but I think Arsenal fans are well educated on spotting a talent when we see one, especially when all you have to do is compare them to our current "world class" youngsters.

I think you're going a little over board on your assesment on him then. He's a great talent don't get me wrong, but he hasn't exactly been setting the world on fire either. He's really fast for his size which is rare, but he falls down too easy and gets frustrated way too easily. Throw in his volitility in the dressing room and you have yourself a ticking timebomb.

If Balotelli's temperament is drive by racism, then it should not be a problem if he joins us.

Thing is, I would want the club to be sure.

My reason is that Adebayor was getting into trouble at Monaco, and with Togo, before we signed him.

People reasoned that the Togo stuff was down to the inept organisation with the national team, which I understood easily enough.

Then Ade said he had been immature at Monaco, going out clubbing etc when he should have been concentrating on football.

I accepted that.

Then he came to us 2006 as a reasonable but nothing special player, worked hard off the ball, and as he improved in physique and experience put in a very good season for us 2007 - 2008.

Then he flipped.

He stopped playing. He slouched around the pitch as if the world owed him a living, without any good reason to. He had his pay rise, but did that blunt all his ambition?

He supposedly angled for a move summer 2008, but it could all have been part of brinkmanship from his agent to get the best deal out of Arsenal?

I cannot just attribute that his form 2008 - 2009 was "laziness".
He clearly showed an unprofessional and irresponsible state of mind, only scoring good goals on rare occasion.

It shows a weird streak in his make up.

He had the world at his feet, main striker at a big club with a decade ahead of him to stake a claim to be one of the global superstars of the game.
At a club full of fellow West Africans and French speakers.

Instead he sloped around like he was on a stroll in the park.

Touch of the mentalist in there from what I can see.

But he was tricked into it Flash! Just like that time Bill Clinton tripped, fell and landed knob first in Monica Lewinsky’s fanny?

I think most of Balotelli's temperament is drive by racism the rest due to a little naivity.

I agree with your post but maybe its down to the term 'mentalist'
Loric Cana is mental, Roy Keane is Mental! these are players that at the majority of times need to have there head checked!
This is different to Adebayor as his issues are off field problems and is not a playing style.
Lazy, greedy and destruptive yes. Mentalist he is not!

Keane is way more mental, I agree there.

Still think Ade has a streak of it in him, but we'll just have to disagree, it's City's problem now anyway.

I would love it if we signed Balotelli. The lad is pure class for his age, but he looks lost at Inter. It's hardly surprising given the abuse he receives and to be honest I feel sorry for him.

I do reckon he's got that arrogant stroppy streak, but then so has Bendtner and Balotelli is only 19 years old.

I think under Wenger's guidance and in English football where racism has been pretty much completely eradicated, he'll do excellently.

He's very quick, very powerful and strong, and a good finisher. He can play right, left or through the middle, and he can still improve.

I've seen him have quite a few impressive games for inter this season, and bearing in mind he hates the fans and the manager, I reckon at a club who support him and give him a chance with no predjudice, he'll be a real superstar.

Just read about him on Wikipedia...

Says he became an Italian citizen at 18. So the Italians don't want him, who cares, you could argue he's not Italian anyway if you go by bloodlines.

If he's willing to play well then he should play for Ghana (his parents' birthplace, and so his "blood" nationality) and club form should follow.

I don't think Inter or AC Milan (must be another ice cream fan...) would care if a player from Ghana was scoring goals for them, their issue is that a player with heritage from Ghana is putting himself forward as an Italian.

He wouldn't have those problems in England, and if he's good, why shouldn't Arsenal try and get him?

Well he's already played Itlay U21s...that complicates things...also says he missed a train session once because he slept in, missed the flight, and decided to drive himself instead.
