Szczesny for number one?

Szczesny for number one?

Post by Vince »

... that's what he will fight for.

[quote]Wojciech Szczesny: I can be the answer to Arsenal's goalkeeping problems

Young Arsenal shot-stopper Wojciech Szczesny believes he is the man to solve the club's goalkeeping crisis.

Arsene Wenger's side have struggled between the sticks all season, with both Manuel Almunia and Lukasz Fabianski being exposed on numerous occasions throughout the campaign — and often in the most important games.

Szczesny has spent the season on loan with League One side Brentford, and the 19-year-old believes his spell with the Bees has shown he has the ability and mentality to step up and become the number one at the Emirates Stadium.

“I knew I was coming here to prove myself good enough to be in goal for Arsenal and hopefully I’ve convinced some people I can do a job for them next year,â€

By all acounts he's been absolutley brilliant for Brentford this season, so Id give him a go ahead of almunia and fabianski any day.

Bomb out Atrocious Al, Flappy and Mannone (who's best save v Fulham was made with his nose) immediately.

Woji is the future. When he makes a save he loves to celebrate in the striker's face - brilliant to watch

He's brilliant, no doubt about that but I think it's too soon for him to be our number one...
Maybe another year at Brentford or at a higher level would do him even more good...

We deffo have to get rid of the clowns we currently have though!!!

Seriously lads he has been outstanding in league 2 so lets not get all excited yet eh ? We are talking about him playing in the premiership and champs league against some of the best strikers in the world (and behind a porous defence too :( ) so lets give the kid a chance before we start putting that much pressure on him or his team-mates

Spot on!! Let's bring in a top keeper in the summer and bring Czszkszvznzsey back at the end of next season so he can try to become our number one!

Agree with bring in a top keeper now but I'd prefer that Szczesny gets more playing time but next year with either a Championship or better club. Then maybe in a year or two start knocking at the door.

No thanks, bring him back as 3rd choice and get Hart or Lloris in with another back up keeper. That way we can bin all 3 of Almunia,Flap and Mannone.

Make Szesney number 2.

Bring in to level keeper for top spot.

Mannone and Almunia to fight it out for number 3 and 4.

Sell Fabianski.

Agree with Augie.

I think next season he should go on loan to a Championship club. If he continues to impress the following season loan him to a Premiership club, if he's still going well after than get him in the squad for the 13/14 season.

He needs to be playing regularly, not getting scraps as a backup nor should we put the weight of expectation on him and have him in as our starting 'keeper.

Could it actually benefit us (and W.S) if he keeps away from Gerry Peyton for as long as possible? We don't want the lad to pick up habits like dropping crosses and picking up back-passes!

Almunia's history is a sad and embarrassing.

He plays in League 1. (I used to get the different divisions mixed up as well. Too many name changes :banghead: )

But i agree with the rest of the sentiment and with the majority of the members.
He's what- 19? Which in a goalkeeper's lifespan must be the embryonic stage.

Let him play for a championship club next season and if he excels there then we know he may be ready for a Premier league loan spell.
