Villa Away & Blackburn Away

Post by mike »

I have been to Villa Park a number of times but have never been for a booze before the game. As it’s a late kick off on Saturday, I intend to break the trend!

I see the away pub is The Cap & Gown?

Anyone been to this pub before? Good Craic? How far is it from the ground?

On a completely different note, I’d like to express my disappointment (not surprise!) at the club for missing a trick regarding the Away trip to Blackburn in the Carling Cup.

Initially, match tickets were on sale to season ticket holders, Travel club members etc for a very decent price of £10 for Adults, £5 for concessions. Very reasonable, but, and call me greedy If you will, I felt the club could have doubled up on this offer by also cutting back the price of travel from the ridiculous £25 for adults and concessions to say £5 for adults with concessions travelling for free? Would this really have killed them as a festive one off?! (Especially bearing in mind that the game is on Sky and the fixture falls a few days before Christmas!!))

I hope we still manage to fill the allocation (5000!), as this would be great for the second string to see and hear that much support, but I just feel the club could have guaranteed it by using a little bit of common sense and generosity!

As I said previously, I’m disappointed but not surprised.

I totally agree what a great goodwill gesture it would have been to the fans travelling to Blackburn if the club reduced travel costs to a £5.They really do think we are made of money.Happy xmas to our loyal travelling support

Went to this pub last season Mike. It's literally a minute across the road from the away end. Bit of a dive, but was full of Gooners so not that bad. We got charged 2 quid to get in by a couple of Max and Paddy lookalikes on the door though. The away pub in Blackburn (The Fernhurst) is bigger and a bit better and no entry fee. Need to show your match ticket.

If only I'd read your post before yesterday would have gone in the yew tree instead of walking straight past. Only arrived at Cap & Gown with time for a swift pint so decided it wasn't worth the £2. Thought they'd be selling beer inside the ground but no such luck.
