Most of us were!! Indeed it came as a pleasant surprise that we started so well and were at the top of the table for so long that season. The only thing some people weren't happy with was Wenger's failure/refusal to strengthen the lack of depth to cover the obviously tiring squad in the January window, to help us cross the finishing line - especially given our good start and great position at the time!! :banghead: :banghead:

Almost 2 years later and it appears the lessons still haven't been learnt!! Maybe that's why some people are pissed off?!!

Oh yes we were. But Wenger failed to learn the lessons that the squad was not strong enough and still hasnt. We should have won the league 2 years ago but Wenger sold Diarra and bought no one in the January window and we blew a 6 pt lead.

Citeeh will be affected during the anc as will the chavs but both have the ability to buy quality replacements in jan and both will do so if the chavs get their transfer embargo lifted. I still believe that the mancs will win the league this season and tbh, given the alternatives, that wouldnt be the worst outcome from my point of view anyway. In my opinion ourselves and victims fc are clearly the clubs most at risk of losing their place at the top 4 table and if I am really honest I dont think that we deserve to be top 4 anymore anyway

I am sticking to my 5th place prediction but it is based on the inability of teams like the scum, everton and villa to sustain a serious challenge over the course of a full season otherwise I doubt if we would finish 5th even :( I am also wondering how the fans will feel if the clubs spends money in jan again this season in a bid to snatch back a 4th place finish that looks beyond us = I mean it might be good on the surface but on the other hand we will be asking why we didnt spend last month so we didnt have to battle for 4th

It's amazing isn't it  people just can't help going overboard   ... presumably, he's including Citeh, Sp*rs and Villa?

I strongly disagree with greengooner on this, but this is what defeat does to some people... it takes hold of their senses and all logic goes out the window.

Tbh Gooner i think Citeh will finish above us and if you look at the pre season thread i've got us down as coming in fifth and i still believe that there is a very real chance of that happening...But i don't believe Villa or Everton this season are any where near as good as us or are good enough to finish above us even if we have a bad season....
As for Spurs i think there is an outside chance they may trouble us if they show some consistency and we get bogged down in the CL whilst they can stay fresher for the premiership games with no european commitments... but i certainly wouldn't say they were better than us...

We'll know more after 10 games, but I'd be amazed if Villa, Sp*rs, Everton or any of those clubs finished above us.

Citeh are a different kettle of fish, and it wouldn't suprise me if us, Man City and Liverpool were dragged into a 3 way battle for a top 4 place.... but even so, I still think Citeh might come up short over 9 months, but we'll see.

ManUre might not be great, but they have that experience, consistency and ability to grind out results.... whereas Chelsea are a very good side, too.

I think we'll finish between 3rd and 5th. Probably 4th, I suppose.

I was hoping 2nd would be achieveable, and obviously it still is.... but our poor results and inability to stop conceding goals is a worrying habit, and will probably cost us. But, we have such potential, and I still wonder whether the 2 results in Manchester were bad luck or a sign of things to come. Time will tell.

Agree 100%.

Failing to strengthen then was short sighted by Wenger and/or the club. If we had spent the money and won that title we would have been in a strong position to sign more quality the following season (without having to offer silly wages), we would have sold out every game and the extra JCL's would have spent their cash in the Armoury and on hot dogs etc putting more cash back into the club.

Instead, since then we've had huge swathes of empty seats and I'd imagine most top players now view us as yesterday's men. We now would have to offer bigger wages to appeal to most of them, whereas as champions, we might have been able to offer realistic wages and a chance to play for the champions and challenge to retain the trophy.

The most annoying thing though is we were so close to it and we pissed it away by failing to strengthen when a blind man could see where we needed to strengthen! :banghead:
