On Saturday, with not too much action, I seemed to spend time watching the defence. Campbell was outstanding, a clean sheet with a dodgy keeper and not the quickest defensive partner was in itself a good achievement.
I get home to watch Lineker and Hansen talking about Dawson and King as possible world cup centre backs. The World Cup is no place for inexperience, and frankly King's injury record regardless of his choice of clubs makes it a giant gamble.
After Sol's performances in recent weeks, let's hope he's not booked his summer holiday, because a trip to South Africa is still possible.
Sol Campbell for England
Sol has been outstanding since he re-joined and at times has held our back line together on his own. In particular I thought the was immense at the Lane. Taking my Arsenal hat off, if Terry or Ferdinand (assuming they both start) are injured and England are plunged into a World Cup quarter, semi or dare I say Final, if I had a choice of Dawson, Upson, Lescott or big Sol to come in as cover, as an England fan I'd want Sol every day. Aside from his obvious experience he has proved he still has the game and can compete with the best.
As a side point, if it wasn't for fitness issues I'd have Ledley King in the starting England 11 ahead of Terry every time. Shame he's a Yido but the guy is class. But his injury record would surely make it too big a risk to take him?
