Fair play to them that they overachieved. I think we were underdogs when beating Sheff Wed in those two cup finals. And we were massive underdogs when beating Parma. Fact is that the 1991 was superb (a rival for the Invincibles!!) and looked to be capable of being world beaters for years to come....and only a couple of years later we were just a good cup side like Portsmouth and Spuds!

That's right MKG.

George broke up a side that looked capable of going on to be world beaters for years to come, and it got to the stage where the title was out of our reach. He started saying that he would only buy better players than those he already had, and refused to address the glaring deficiencies in a squad that contained some genuine international quality, but held back by the one-eyed view of a dictatorial manager, who had become so entrenched in his own way of doing things. He made 3 signings after realising that things in his plan were going down the pan.

I'm glad those days are over

Seriously though, Wenger's teams play better, or "more eye-catching football", and that's it. GG is a far better tactician and disciplinarian, plus knows how to win. Defensively he was phenomenal, and if Wenger didn't inherit his back 5 who knows where he'd be today. Yes the football was boring under GG, but we didn't half know how to defend and grind out wins, and we had players ready to die for the club.

That is all true.

More to the point was it really boring winning the League at Anfield in 1989 ?

Winning it 2 years later in 1991 ?

Beating Parma to win the CWC in 1994 ?

Conversely how entertaining was the last home game or the last half a dozen away games ?

Does anyone really get up out of their seat as Diaby and Denielson strut their stuff ??

Worth thinking about. 8)

Wenger however did buy Lehmann, Lauren, Campbell, Toure and developed Cashley and that defence was pretty mean and a defense you could trust. That's why it baffles me how this team cant seem to defend as a unit, all good players individuly (apart from our keepers) but after Wenger saw what made a good defence in 04, he fails to address the errors that are so obvious now

He's one one more title - so well done.

He's won three more FA Cups - ditto !

But he hasn't won the CC at all.

And he's failed in Europe and with far more attempts than George managed as we were banned from European football - as a country - when we won the title in '89.

So the record isn't quite so clear cut. GG's record of six trophies in seven years is pretty impressive and rather better than none in the last five which is what is vexing so many of us !

George Graham won six trophies in his eight seasons managing Arsenal, which translates to 0.75 per season.

Arsene Wenger has won seven trophies in his thirteen seasons managing Arsenal, which translates to 0.53 per season.

So he's won one more than Graham, but it's taken him an additional five seasons.

I wouldn't say that's the 'END OF' at all.

What a ludicrous argument, and if you weren't a troll or a complete wind-up merchant, I'd actually engage in a full-on discussion with you.

Move along.

Wenger has won more. Its a simple fact. Had more time to do it in? George shouldnt of been so stupid to do all that money ***** then he would of had more time. George brought some of the best defensive players we have ever seen at the club and Wenger some of the best ever attackers. Why argue about whos better, just merge the two of them already and then we will be unstoppable.
