Was it me or was the atmosphere pretty bad yesterday? If the team was not already edgy then the lack of effort from the fans encapsulated it. We barely raised a song that the whole ground got involved in.
Some West Ham fans on the journey home spoke about the ground being"alright" but the lack of any noise made it seem soulless. I couldnt argue back with any substance.
Either we cannot be bothered to create a "12 th" man to help the boys or the "Sky" tv generation have invaded our new stadium and are sitting there waiting to be entertained.....

Supporters , Your team always needs YOU.
Thank you.

A bloke near me said 'F*** off Wenger you french prick!' and 'For f*** sake Toure - You're f****** s***!' and everyone else laughed at these ridiculous comments. I just felt like punching the bloke TBH.

I never stopped cheering and clapping but it seemed that 95% of the ground did. There was loads of time left to get a goal but hardly anyone seemed to believe we could do it. I know we played bad but we are still the mighty reds!

What a retard. Although anyone sitting near me would know my feelings on Alex Hleb as i gave him a real hard time on saturday. The lad doesn't seem to know he's playing Right Wing he follows the ball too often and leaves us exposed on one side.
Wenger is the best thing that has happened to Arsenal in many many years. Toure is class.
The atmosphere was dissapointing at times but when the team is doing the same thing every week its hard to keep the faith. These guys are proffessional players who aren't learning from their mistakes. We all knew what was going to happen yesterday, dominant in the first 15 minutes fail to make chances pay, concede just before half time and then fail to break down a 11 man defence in the second half. It's ridiculous that we have been doing this all season and not been able to improve.

Bad atmostphere at the Grove

Post by Basil is a Gooner »

I agree that the atmostphere was really bad yesterday. It cost me £66 to go yesterday and although I enjoyed the matchday experience (sorry Ed, those of us unable to go to every game can still enjoy the event if not the game - basically I love going to see Arsenal), I was really disappointed that we didn't get behind the team. Everyone keeps saying that there are no "proper" songs and that is true, but surely an equivalent "Bergkamp Wonderland" or suchlike can't be that difficult to get going? Yesterday, we didn't even have to "stand up if we hated Tottenham" (thanks goodness).
4th place does seem to be slipping away with our inability to score and whilst that is not the fan's fault, we must be able to lift the team and help get that ball in the net?
Anyway, thats my simplistic view.

God!!! Tell me about it! The bunch of wankers I was surrounded by didn't make a sound the whole game. I was the only one singing and cheering in the middle of loads . NO i tell a lie they were laughing with the west ham supporters everytime they heard them sing how shit we are, "ooooo look at them naughty people cheering for their team". i really had to bite my tongue at the end cos it wound me up that much!

I've said this before but we really need to sort something out by next season. There seem to be so many gooners who want to sing, but are surrounded by the prawnies who don't know the meaning of being a supporter. All the gooners that want to sing seem to spread out in the stadium, why can't we all sit together in one stand behind the goal? (like our own kop). Or just all join and expand the RedAction section, which could be 4 times bigger than what it is now.

The new breed make me sick, no passion, no encouragement shown towards the team, and when things go wrong they all start fucking moaning. These people only seem to show passion when they are slating a player and moaning at the team.

Just put them in the sides or upper tiers, and get all us vocal gooners sitting together, then we will never have a quiet game again.

In pre all-seater days lots of 'real' supporters stood together on the North Bank so the atmosphere came automatically (remember 'Sing Up Clock End"). Even true supporters in the East and West Stands rarely sung. It's much the same with away games, wityh a high concentration of Gooners who go to most of the season's games.

Despite the awful atmosphere Saturday, and the uncondonable disgusting booing of a team who created enough chances to have scored 10 (although that indefinable 'winners' ingredient was missing), what about that spontaneous display of unconfined support immediately after Cesc's shot hit the bar? Unfortunately it lasted about 30 seconds, but proved what was possible.

And to reinforce an earlier contributor to this thread, with 17000+ visits to the 'Singing' one in Chat, why do we still have so few songs (and I don't mean the one we've loaned out)? :(

I sit in block 5 with RedAction and as i'm singing all game i can never tell what the atmosphere is like on any particular day. When you constantly sing you don't know how many are joining in with you. As for getting on the backs of the players, whoever does that during the game are wankers. Debate it in the pub after or whatever. Do you really think calling a player a c##t during the match will make him play better!!. When we played the spuds in the carling cup semi loads of 'fans' around me were slagging of Walcott, that's how to improve the performance of a 17 year old. Tell him he's SHIT. You don't deserve a ticket!!!! and with any luck you'll be priced out of another one.

I agree with your points about needing a stand where all the singers can go like the old North Bank, hopefully are the singers from around the ground we'll see that all the noise comes from the REDsection and re - locate to the new North Bank. The sad thing is that the new North Bank seems to be mainly season ticket holders so it's hard to get tickets unless you go for upper tier. It's a shame because the REDsection is only two blocks and yet the away section is four, it should have been made the same size as the away section or bigger. Hopefully the club will decide to extend the REDsection to block 9 or the whole of the lower NB. If not i'm sure someone could start a petition about increasing the REDsection i know loads of people would be up for it. Here's hoping :D
