Stanley Cup Finals

Post by SammyDroppedHisShorts »

For the first time since 1997 my beloved Philadelphia Flyers have made it to the Lord Stanley Cup Finals with a thrilling 4-1 series win over the Montreal Canadiens.

This is the team that in game 82 of 82 needed to beat the NY Rangers to get into the play offs. They did it with a 2-1 shootout win

This is the team that dismantled a fantastic New Jersey Devils in a 4-1 series win that was brutal

This is the team that was losing 0-3 after three matches and were dead and buried, but some how against all the odds took Boston Bruins to game seven in Boston. After 18 minutes this team were 3-0 down and again dead and buried, but yet.....the won 4-3

This is the team that destroyed a Montreal side tha had already knocked out the best team in the League Washington Capitals and the reigning Stanley Cup champs Pittsburgh Penguins...

This team has something that my other beloved team Arsenal sadly lack.....never say die attitude and its never over till its over......

They face the Chicago Blackhawks in the final......the Hawks are outstanding and in my heart I cannot see the Flyers making it...but you never know....

Saturday 8pm local Chicago time 1am ours...worth a watch folks on ESPN America...its a bloody good sport to watch!!

Ah, The Stanley Cup - the brainchild of Lord Stanley of Preston :-P

A great competition at the end of a ridiculously long regular season where the only real aim is to finish in the top half of the league before the REAL stuff starts! :?

I have family in Canada, and they're hockey mad. I caught the bug whilst over there, and was lucky enough to watch Ottawa Senators, Toronto Maple Leafs, NY Rangers and the great Edmonton Oilers! 8)

I watched a lot of NHL on channel 5 after that, and the team the always stood out for me were the Detroit Red Wings. One of the traditional teams who formed the NHL, with great players throughout and best of all.... they play in red and white! :barscarf:

no way you deserve to be there, the pens woulda smashed u again just like last year!!
seriously tho, some truly unbelievable comebacks inc 3 shut outs!!! and just like the football playoffs, the team that sneaks in at the end on form usually does well.thats how we(penguins)won it last year and why washington and san jose bomb out every year despite running away with their conferences.

still hope you lose 4-0 tho  hartnell is a scumbag and the robbie savage of hockey

I'm not sure many teams could afford a Sid, same as the Hawks will have some serious cap issues in the next few years.
The teams that are starting to come to the fore are the teams like the Flyers or the Canadiens who can produce 4 competitive lines that are always capable of doing a job. It gives teams that are always in your face without give your stars a breather.

As with every American sport though, it also means that no-one can ever build a dynasty similar to the great Canadiens teams of the past and more recently the Wings. This must be a shame to true fans

And I agree Hawks in 6 sounds about right

there aren't too many sid's to go around to be fair!!but if u want one you make sacrafices in a way chavski will never understand.if u wanna top forward line then u sacrafice on def and vice versa rather then goin and buying a whole new both. i've gotten into watchin nhl more and more last couple years(used to play as a kid) because of the trade effect.imagine aw in a trade system, unearth a vieira for nothing and trade for 2-3 very decent players(plus he'd never have to spend a penny  )

also the passion of players who cant take gettin fucked around with like manure and chavski did to us this year so can legally go ram some twat into the boards and punch the shit outta em is something i dream of vermaelen doing to shrek every night

Yep.
I watched the Steelers for years when I lived near Sheffield.
Nothing like a good old Boxing Day rumble against the Panthers in front of 9000 people. The games a different world now though unfortunately

So after four matches the series is tied at 2-2

Game one was a cracking 6-5 win for the Hawks
Game two a tighter 2-1 win for the HAwks but the Flyers could have won both.
Game three a tense 4-3 over time win for the Flyers
Game four a cracking 5-3 wn for the Flyers

So off we go to Chicago for game five sunday night. Hopefully, my Flyers can steal the game and go home on Wednesday to secure the cup....

That call however, of Hawks in six looks good....
I am going to call it Flyers in seven....
