FIRST ARSENAL SIGNING YOU WERE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT...

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I loved him...i can't remember if the banner at Wembley was when he was still at Ipswich or when he had joined. It was the Brians Tal Bot ______ is bigger one.

Glenn Helder was great but he looked like an 80s pop star when he was unveiled by George back in 95! He was great down the wing and set up Bergys first goal against Southampton the next season (I was there!)

LOL, did he even play a game for us
About 3? All as a sub I think? I remember him playing against West Brom in the Carling Cup and against Portsmouth in the last game of the season, both as a sub.

Best memory of him is the two identical curling free kicks into the corner of the net in the same week in September 84/85?, one against Newcastle on the tuesday night, the other against the scouse in a 3-1 win on the saturday. Don't think he ever did anything similar in his career with us which why they stick in the mind and also me mates son who has been a regular since he was old enough to dribble  was born in the same week so it sticks in the mind  Rather Talbot than most of the Barcelona wannabees who play for us now

I think the most exciting signing for me at the time was Charlie Nicholas for the reasons already stated .
Does anyone remember Vladimir Petrovic ? He caused some temporary excitement as an overseas "star" though he never produced much in the end .

Yes, I seem to remember him getting a hattrick at Highbury, I think it was against Man City...
