Why was the flotilla thread locked?
Why was the flotilla thread locked?
There was a very polite discussion between every poster. There were a lot of things that have been said, and there a lot of things to still say.
There was an interesting article in a turkish newspaper, including photos of the Israeli soldiers on the ship, but I don't want to break the forum's rules, so why was the thread locked?

I'd like to know why the thread was locked, too!
Just don't see the big deal. It's a non-Arsenal related thread in the basement where people were debating a subject. It hadn't gone beyond the boundaries of decency and although there was a disagreement, it wasn't abusive.
It's ridiculous that tit threads and shit threads about which forum member is the wanker of the year can stay open, yet a seriously debated thread gets locked!
If you don't want to take part in the debate, then don't post on the thread! - and if the thread goes against your political views then either join in the debate or leave well alone.
If it's somehow broken forum rules by debating political issues then that's sad, and I'd like the rules of the forum cleared up, so we don't end up scratching our heads every time a serious thread is locked.
I understand that debating politics isn't everyones cup of tea, but that's why variety is great - something to cater for everyone.
I just think that considering the thread was still alive with debate, I think the least people deserve is the courtesy of an explanation.... or even better, unlock the thing!

That thread was actually moved FROM The basement TO the Main Forum by a Mod!g88ner wrote: It's ridiculous that tit threads about which forum member is the wanker of the year can stay open.
I think the Mods should post a "sticky" which explains what is allowed here.
Either there is a complete ban on political/religious threads, or such threads are allowed provided they do not descend into vitriol.
The two flotilla threads were noticeably worthwhile by the fact that the vitriolic member of the Forum who posted on previous Middle East threads, did not post on these ones.

what i find strange is the lack of an explanation, in my experience mods usually put a post in the thread explaining the lockdown. i can't really fathom the reasoning behind it either, i took the debate to be rather lively and the views on both sides are as entrenched as one would expect, but no one got personal or disrespectful.
You missed nothing it was more selfish modding who dont think before they act. They probably had a personal agenda against one of more of the posters in the thread and there over use of power can be seen as form of bullying. Join me in my war against the mods we will not take this lying down, we will fight them on the servers, we will fight them in the proxys, we wil never surrender!!!

True, but that should be your decision to make. When you've had enough of going round in circles, you stop and the thread naturally drops down the page and that's that.
I don't see a need to force an end to a popular thread that hasn't crossed any boundaries.
In fact, may I suggest a MOD exclusion zone around these political threads and suggest they hold fire until forum boundaries have been breached?

(I promise that no political view was expressed in that comment, by the way!)

Or do what Quartz did when USMartin had worn him down after 10,678 pages of debate about the board and say:
"we have to agree to disagree"
