Just seen Spain demolish Poland 6-0 and I'm telling you, it's going to take a brilliant performance by an opponent and probably an off day for them, to prevent Spain picking up the trophy.

Imagine Barca at their very best then add a better keeper, stronger defensive back-line, an even more creative midfield and then two of the best finishers in world football!!! And the substitutes bench is to die for!!

Believe it or not, Cesc looks an even better player surrounded by that type of quality - players of equal ability that can anticipate and reciprocate his passes. Trust me, if he does go to Barcelona, Cesc will slot straight into that team and you won't be able to see the join.

big thing in international football is the bench.if ssn told it right, cesc walked right off the bench to score as did torres after 6 weeks out only took 2 mins.think the argies have game changers on the bench too but not the depth right thru the team.
spain to beat holland in final
serbia to get to semi's(ko england in last 16 :barscarf: )as theres always a surprise.see-senegal and korea even aussies recent tournaments

All the goals

Iniesta is just so good..his chip over the defence for the second goal is pure class.

I have to say though as good as Spain are Poland played like a non league side at times...

Sad news from the Australian camp in the last few days. Goalkeeper Brad Jones (of Middlesbrough) has had to leave the camp and pull out of the World Cup after being told that his 4 year old son has been diagnosed with cancer.

Good to see torres has cut his hair, will also be looking to reproduce the same form he showed during 06 wc. I fear for the side playing spain and yes Cesc Fabregas can easily slot into either the spain side or the barca side. I had my doubts at first but not any more.

I believe spain at the moment can only be overpowered by a side that plays like inter milan. A physical, park-the-bus side.

The only side like that that comes to mind is Italy.

edit: and the States actually, though we'll never see them to worry about it.

Not many teams more physical than Australia at the World Cup.

I really believe Argentina have the squad to win it all but Maradona will hinder them so I'm sticking with Spain.

If you've not already seen it, can I draw people's attention to The Gooner World Cup Wallchart which is available to download here - http://www.onlinegooner.com/exclusive/G ... lchart.pdf

To try and make it a little more interesting for those people who struggle to get excited about international football, the wallchart incorporates a competition which runs for the duration of the tournament to win a new replica home shirt and a Gooner subscription.

Look forward to reading on here how people are getting on.

Good luck to Vela and Sagna tomorrow (don't think Diaby and Clichy will start).

:? He came on as sub for Spain, which is probably the role he will play for Spain in the WC, behind the same players he will be behind at Barca..how does that mean he will slot straight into the Barca first 11 who have a better midfield than Spain..

No one is doubting that he is good enough to look good at Barca, it's the other half dozen quality players they have that can play central midfield that are the problem..
As Hleb and Henry found out just because Barca pursue a player and pay big money for them that doesn't mean they are going to take over a position unchallenged by the other world class players on their books..
