I've seen the guy play I'd guess around a dozen times or so and I've yet to be impressed with him. The new Zidane my arse!!
Same. I've heard so much about Gourcouff but I've been left underwhelmed every time I've seen him play... and tonight was no different :?

Yea i agree with both of ya, i've seen very little of Gourcouff but reading the rave reviews on here from some i was expecting something pretty special, which he certainly wasn't, going on tonights perfromance.

Also

I hope they ban those f*cking horns and quickly, part of the excitement of a big game is hearing the crowds reaction, the atmosphere, the constant drone of horns is killing that..

''Barca plan to play'' come off it you have no idea what Barca ''plan'' to do we are both just guessing, the only person who knows for sure their plans is Guardiola and he certainly hasn't said anything about what he intends to do with a player he doesn't even own yet.

So we can only base our judgement on what we know and what we know is up until now he is a squad player for Spain they fit him in where and when they can, but the regulars of that midfield when everyone is fit are Silva,Iniesta, Xavi and a holding player.

So Iniesta plays left, Silva right, and Xavi plays central with Alonso

As for how he fits into the barca side imo it will be the same and for the same reasons they will fit him in where and when they can as they do with the impressive Busquets and Keita.

Cesc plays almost an identical game to Xavi, although i'm sure they would look very good together it doesn't give them a good balance, 2 ball players playing next to each other both of them lacking pace and neither of them really run at players and take them on. They would get far better balance with a player that offers something different, someone who can run with the ball or a more powerful pacy player with a ball player, rather than two out and out ball players..

Added to that i don't believe for one minute Guardiola is planning on leaving Ibra on the bench for most of the season so that would mean Villa would be playing from the left.

This is no insult to Cesc saying he won't be the first man on the team sheet, his time will come but as long as Xavi is still fit and on his game i don't see Cesc getting anything other than what he gets for Spain and thats fitted in where and when possible that doesn't mean he is not an excellent player it just means he is competing with the very best there is not Diaby, Nasri and Denilson..
Well although I obviously haven't spoken one to one with Guardiola, I did hear an interview a few months back - when the Fabregas to Barca transfer rumours first resurfaced - with a Spanish journalist who claimed to have asked the Barcelona manager where Cesc would fit in if he was actually bought. This journalist claimed that Guardiola told him the plan as outlined by me in my previous post.

Although not guaranteed to be the case, you can certainly see how the system could work with, as I said earlier, Iniesta left, Cesc and Xavi either side of a DM, with Messi on the right and Villa as the forward.

I also wouldn't be so sure about Ibrahimovich's future as a stone-wall starter either as Guardiola barely picked him in the final few games of the Spanish season. There have been strong rumours that Barcelona are looking to off-load him so maybe that's why the plan could be to have Villa as the sole front man ahead of the 5 man midfield I mentioned above.

Anyway, lets hope that it all turns out to be irrelevant and that Cesc ends up staying with us. That would certainly put paid to any futher debate as to whether he'd fit straight into the Barca team or not - for 12 months at least!!

Well the longer he leaves it the more likely he will slot straight in, thats why i can't see why he would go yet. Another couple of seasons i'd have no doubt he would just stroll into Xavi's place, a seemless transition like for like. But now i don't see what he gives them that they haven't already got in abundance..

Maybe that doubt of warming the bench might just help us keep him a few more seasons...yep seasons I said...

Anelka is rubbish up front, Govou is useless, Gourcuff is shit, Ribery is so selfish, etc ... Diaby was man of the match, and I think he'll impress a lot of sceptic.
I still think we'll win it .....
Rosetinter for life 8)

Toulan was man of the match by a mile....we could do with a combatitive DM like that :(
Trust me, Toulalan hasn't got the technical ability to play in a Top4 Club. The best games he's played was as a center back with Lyon this season. He had a good game tonight, but he's almost been sent off. I like his attitude though, very committed player, he'd be great for Bolton or Blackburn :P

According to l'équipe, Doemench wasn't happy with him at the training session before the game because he was very aggressive. So they had an argument.
he said after the game : "I made 2 faults and he was a bit upset. But it wasn't the reason. The coach wanted a second defensive midfielder. He made a choice, we have to accept it."

But I think Malouda was fed up playing in midfield in a 433, so he told Domenech. That's why Diaby started and Malouda came in as a left winger.

I know we have all said it but that Domenech is one mad and stupid bastard  It kills me to say it but malouda has had a great season with the chavs and should have pissed onto that french team. I also have to say that the praise of diaby has gone well over the top imo....he went on 2 or 3 fine driving runs but other than that he didnt seem that involved in the game. As I said on the other thread I tried to watch gourcuff closely tonight to see if the substance matches the hype and on tonights game you would say no but of course it is only 1 game.

In defence of diaby and gourcuff I have to say that the 4-3-3 system absolutely sucks :x It would be a fine system if every team used it but against a tean playing 4-4-2 or indeed 3-5-2 your midfield (which is your engine room) is under-staffed which then creates a problem getting the ball to your front 3. What then happens is that wingers in the front 3 then start dropping back to get possession and help their midfield and that means you only have 1 up front and that aint good

Oh no!
South Africa goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune was disappointed his team didn't get loud enough support from the home fans in the 1-1 draw with Mexico in the opening match of the World Cup.

Khune said he hopes that South Africa supporters will be more vocal during the team's next Group A match against Uruguay in Pretoria on Wednesday.

"I'm disappointed that we didn't blow a lot of vuvuzelas, but let's hopes in the next game we'll blow more," Khune said.

It's funny but I dont have much of a problem with the vuvuzelas - I know that they are constant but I would suggest that every world cup produces it's own little quirks like this anyway. In mexico the had the mexican wave which I would find a lot more annoying and I would suggest that it is far more distracting for the players than the blowing of these horns. Lets face it they also drown out a lot od the shite being spouted by the various tv commentators and that can only be a good thing surely ?

Oh I would take the Vuvuzelas ahead of the mexican wave every time, that really annoys me.

I don't hate the vuvuzelas as much as some people, and its good they give a bit of unique character to the tournament crowds, but just thought the goalkeeper's sentiments were hilarious in response to the posts made on here already.

I don't mind them when I watch it on telly but it'd drive me mad if someone was blowing the horn non-stop just next to me
But that's the same with every WC right?!
